EAT YOUR FRUITS!

in #food7 years ago (edited)

How many of you get your 3 servings of fruits in daily? I have heard of many folks who steer away from fruits due to the sugar content in them with these crazy new diets coming out nowadays. I have always said that a balanced diet is the best diet. Yes, fruits do have sugar in them, but they also have a lot of beneficial nutrients that you need on a daily basis in them as well. Berries have loads of antioxidants, vitamin K, fiber, and vitamin C.

The best time I have found to consume my serving of fruits is in the morning with my breakfast or in a smoothie right before a workout to help me get an energy boost. To keep it interesting, try out different types of fruits from various areas of the world.

Besides just eating the fruits, you can consume them in many other ways. Try putting them in yogurt, oatmeal, a smoothie, or cereal.

Below is a picture of some organically grown fruits that we picked up on our road trip to San Francisco. Berries must always be bought organic. The reason for this is because the berries are consumed with the skin and pesticides are sprayed directly on the fruits. Fruits such as oranges and bananas (anything with a thick outer skin that is removed before consumption) are okay to buy non-organic, but I still prefer organic fruits....they just taste better!

I love parfaits with berries! These are great to prepare the night before to grab on the go in the morning:

For a party we had recently, I put fruits on skewers for our guests and they loved the presentation. It made people actually want to eat the fruits!

So eat your fruits guys and try to keep a good variety in order to get the different benefits from every fruit!
