Citrus Vinaigrette Dressing
The ingredient that makes this dressing really pop with flavor is the fresh squeezed orange juice. What made this particular rendition of this dressing great was that I used the Cara Cara variety of oranges. If you are not familiar, Cara Cara oranges are a very sweet, red-ish fleshed orange. Although any type of orange will work in this recipe, I do love the tangy sweetness of the Cara Cara orange, and it's seedless, which makes squeezing the juice out a breeze.
When crafting my own dressing, I like to start with a base of olive oil. But not just any olive oil will do. I am always sure to use a robustly flavored oil, one that has that unique olive-y taste to it. This ensures the dressing turns out flavorful, and not bland.
Because of it's natural sweetness, this dressing is a great addition to salads that have fruit in them, such as this or this. It also works great in a pasta salad.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 tablespoon balsamic oil
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- juice of 1 orange
Combine all ingredients, oils first, followed by the honey, orange juice and spices. Whisk together to combine. Separation is natural, so whisk or stir again before serving.
Thanks for the recipe. Will try it.
