Eat with me: Bún bò Huế
Hey Steemians,
today I want to introduce you to one of the most popular dish of Vietnam: Bún bò Huế also known as the spicy beef soup. It comes from central Vietnam Huế, which has been a former capital of Vietnam during the Nguyễn dynasty. Today, it is well known to have delicious food such as this one. Bún, translated, means "round rice noodle" and is not the same as the flat, thin rice noodle from the "Phở" soup, which some of you might have heared about. Generally, vietnamese noodle soups take a lot of effort and time to be cooked. This is why we don't eat it often. Nevertheless, my aunt invited us to eat Bún bò Huế this time. Among all noodle soups, i would say this is the most time consuming one. Please don't be shocked by the big amount of meat in the bowl below haha! This soup is especially popular for its variety of meat containing beef (Bò), pork and oxtail. Usually, you top this dish by adding salad and bean sprouse into your bowl right before you begin to eat in order to have them fresh. If extra seasoning is wished, Bún bò Huế is always served with lime and a small cup with fish sauce and chilli. This soup has so much flavor!
Ingredients Bún bò Huế:
- Rice noodles
- Beef shank
- Oxtail
- Pork hocks
- Pork blood
- Seasoning (salt, red pepper, sugar, shrimp paste, fish sauce)
- Garlic, lemon, mint, onions, coriander, banana flower
- Bean sprouse, salad
- Other veggies you like to add
My aunt completed the dinner with the vietnamese rice crackers named Bánh Tráng. The crackers are usually served warm and with the dip Mắm ruốc (shrimp paste). In addition to that, she tried something new with Gỏi Gà (cold chicken salad) in the Thai way. It contains shrimps, carrots, coriander, mango, onions, nuts and chilli.
