5 Day water fast DAY 4, Thursday
Hi everyone, not dead yet, far from it. Didn't sleep too well so I didn't rush out of bed. Glucose had gone down to 3.2mmol/L and I was surprised to see the Beta ketones had shot up to 5.6mmol/L. Wow. That makes a Glucose Ketone index of 0.66, well into the therapeutic levels recommended by Prof Thomas Seyfried. This is what he calls the 'cancer insurance policy'. Damien Blenkinsop has a brilliant website in which he shows extremely detailed results of his activities. Look here for the results of his 5 day fasts. He has a ton of valuable info on this site called the 'Quantified Body':

I had 2 small pots of turmeric gold tea, a black coffee when a friend called and a couple of glasses of water. That's it till this evening. Just had a mug of ginger and lemon tea with my daughter.
I HAVE NOT FELT HUNGRY AT ALL.
Also I've felt quite sharp. I'm learning the piano part for a quite long quartet in G Major by JC Bach and was able to do a long stint at that. Been out with the dog walking for an hour and throwing the ball. Haven't felt particularly physically lively however. maybe because I made the decision to take it easy.
Did my readings a short while ago:
Glucose...3.1 You can see the red warning light bottom right hand corner. If I wasn't burning fat to make ketones that wouldn't be good I believe. However I am making Ketones. My Beta-hydroxybutyrate level was:
WHOA... That makes my Glucose Ketone index 0.525. Beautiful. I checked to see if this was OK. Prof Seyfried says K levels of between 6 and 7 are quite normal at this stage so I'm not worried.
FASTING MIMICKING DIET
There is a milder version of the water fast probably better for people who couldn't really contemplate a 5 day water fast. Can be used as an introduction maybe...
Dr Valter Longo of the University of Southern California does research on longevity and he's made a modern version of this. Damien Blenkinsop does a good job of explaining it here:

Check out videos on YouTube by Dr Darren Schmidt. I like him and his work.
One more day to go... then I start refeeding...tell you about that tomorrow.
signing off,
