ONE STEP CLOSER TO TASTING THE FRUIT OF MY LABOR

in #food7 years ago

This was rewarding to see today!

Not only do animals come out of hibernation early in the spring, but the plants wake up too and begin to bud and flower after being dormant over the winter months.

Now this may not look like much to you, but look closer at the part that I've circled in yellow! That is why I was excited! I ran over right away to see what was going on, and it was very encouraging!

THE VLOG OF MY FIND!

I figured I would record a short video to document the event. I love looking back on stuff like this anyway and thought that those of you who enjoy the videos would appreciate this. It is encouraging to see.

FIRST COMES THE FLOWERS, THEN COMES THE FRUIT

As I shared a while ago I had grafted some plum scions onto the wild plum trees here when I first moved down. This way I could keep them alive and have them available when I got going down here.

It looks my graft was successful and it made it through another winter, because the branch that I grafted is now in full bloom. If these blossoms get pollinated and the fruit begins to grow, I could be just months away from literally tasting the fruit of my labor! I love doing things where the byproduct or end result is food! It just makes so much sense!

Grafting is just one of those life skills that can be rather simple to learn and has a lot of potential. I'm still learning and experimenting, but I'm at least figuring it out! Thanks for celebrating with me!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Thank you my friend!

You are welcome my friend 😊.

Great video and photography. I never thought that plants go for hibernation, but yes truly they go for hibernation in winters and are back to life in spring

Yay! That's so exciting! 😄🌼 I love seeing photos or posts like this. Spring is my fave season. We may not have cherry blossoms but just photos of fruits blooming kind of similar to that is 🖒. 🌼🌸

beautiful flowers and nice scenery @papa-pepper

That's so cool that the graft was the first branch to flower. Plums are on their way! Beautiful macro shots of the buds!

I tried some macro of a peach tree blossoming too. Might post tomorrow. Good color contrast against the sky on them, so we will see.

What an interesting article, I loved it, my dad used to make grafts of mangoes, roses and we had a lot of fun, nature is a patient mother, she always teaches us and surprises us, success, with your grafts and greetings from Venezuela !!

Cool, I do not think that my dad ever grafted, but my children have a dad who does!

That would be a lot of plums soon, for sure you will keep coming back to see the flowers progress. Happy homesteaders!
