THE GREEK 'FRAPPE' - HOW TO MAKE A DEBT FREE ICED COFFEE!

in #food8 years ago (edited)

We drink it all year round but especially during the summer.  You can make it if you need a quick coffee in the morning, but it goes much better with the relaxed, laid-back Greek lifestyle.  If you are a coffee lover, the Frappe will definitely become one of your favourites.  So here is how you make it:

Step 1

Relax.  Take a deep breath.  Close your eyes and imagine you are in Greece.

Put on some traditional Greek music.

Once your relaxation state has reached Greek levels, gather everything you will need:

  • One glass, preferably a tall one
  • Hand mixer or a shaker
  • One straw
  • Instant coffee
  • Cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Milk (optional)
  • Sugar (optional)

Step 2

Put 1-2 teaspoons of coffee inside the glass.  Add 2 tsps of sugar for a sweet coffee, 1 for medium and 0 for plain.  If you will use a shaker to mix your coffee, add your ingredients in there.

Step 3

Slowly add a small amount of water, approximately a level of 1-2 fingers, depending on your glass/shaker.

Step 4

If you are using a hand mixer, mix well until a creamy, thick foam is formed.  If you are using a shaker, add a few ice cubes, close the lid and shake well for a few minutes - then pour the foam in a glass.

Step 5

Add milk if you desire.  You can also use cream or evaporated milk.  I usually add 30-40ml.

Step 6

Pour water until the glass is almost full

Step 7

Add ice until your glass is full

Step 8

Enjoy your Greek style coffee!!

I LOVE Greek coffee! Thank you for the recipe. Takes me back to a great vacay in Crete a few years ago :-)

You 're welcome gardenlady. It's good to see more greek coffee fans :D I was in Crete a few months ago, in Chania for my cousin's wedding. I loved the traditions...and the food :)

Chania was beautiful! We also went down to the southern coast and hiked some gorges. We had frappes every day :-)

A frappe each day..Now that's the ultimate Greek lifestyle :D

Fellow Greek here. Never thought I would see an instructional video for Frappe on this website. Thank you for bringing me back memories of my honeymoon in Mykonos. Frappes every morning, ouzo every night!

Hey there fellow Greek :) An instructional video for Frappe was just what this website was missing!

Pictures are not working, try another host =(.

Fixed!! Thanks for letting me know

I will try this. Sounds so yummy.

Great ! have in mind coffee sales in Greece quadrupled during the crisis. A situation based on the fact that more and more people that stay without a job stay for many hours in cafes

Greeks can stay without a job, but never without a frappe :)
