Valentines Lunch: Makchang - A Korean Barbecue

in #food7 years ago

Our journey today brings us to one of my favorite gastronomic selections. Korean Food.

This journey started off with my extreme love for Korean Drama and K-Pop alike. This is when the different shows I have been watching would showcase their different food items that makes every k-fan's mouth water.

Makchang

Our trip today takes us to Makchang - what stands for "Last Viscus" or the "Abomasium". This is located at "the Space" somewhere in AS Fortuna, Banilad, conveniently located near our very own home. Since I am an avid fan of their culture, as well as their food, this was my special request for valentines day - my Valentines Day Lunch.

Served with the usual selections of Korean Barbecue such as the Samgyupsal and the Bulgogi, they also serve their Beef Makchang, as well as grilled Pig Skin which I have already grown to love.

I would like to share with you our Lunch Date Menu despite posting way beyond the Valentines day period.

The Menu

To start off, every Korean BBQ will always have their fair share of wraps available to you. In this case, we are treated with a handful of lettuce leaves which we can refill over and over. Along with the seasonally available Perilla leaf which is reminiscent of the flavors of anise and licorice. And why not add some chilli for the spicy adventurer into the mix?

This green salad to pair and even incorporate in your wraps (how we usually eat it). Sadly, I am unsure how this is called but the flavors coming from the spring onions and red bean paste are just amazing. This was the first side-dish I fell in love with when I started eating KBBQ. This is also the reason why my friends love Korean Food apart from the meat and soup.

To dine with Korean flavors meant to eat Kimchi. Being the national side dish of Korea, it is just a must have. And I believe they make their Kimchis themselves.

And while I'm on the subject of side-dishes, let me show you a couple of shots I took on what was available for us that day. Yum Yum!

My hubby's favorite here is the Naengmyeon or the Cold Buckwheat noodles. If you've noticed, it does not look pleasing anymore as he never gave me the chance to take a shot at it after he mixed in a healthy balance of mustard and vinegar. It looked beautiful before it got stirred in, and despite the fact that it looks like that now, it is very refreshing with the prominence of cucumber and pickled radish.

And since we are talking about Korean BBQ, these guys have to be present starting with the Beef. Cut just about right to fill the mouth together with the wraps, soft and juicy and grilled perfectly.

The Bulgogi on fire. This dwaeji-bulgogi or the Marinated Pork tastes of sweet and spicy flavors. This type of Bulgogi is very familiar to Filipinos with the hints of Soy and Sugar as the marinating agents. Very comfy, very homey.

There are a few dishes that we failed to take snaps of such as the Pig Skin as well as the actual Makchang. We were all too busy devouring plate after plate of lettuce wraps and meat that we have already forgotten to take pictures of what was supposed to be the highlight of this article. Nevertheless, all of them are simply amazing especially to the K-Food Fan.

Finish Line

Valentines, to me, is no longer about bouquets of flowers or boxes of chocolates. Being with my boys is what my Valentines day truly is - A day of Love. And to spend it over the food you love? Just perfect!

Happy delayed Valentines Day everyone!

This is how my Valentines day was spent. Valentines days that I will truly cherish in life.
