Australia Day Recipe, Beat the Heat with Healthy Homemade Ice Creams
Prepare for the heat, its gonna be a scorcher this #AustraliaDay long weekend.
In #Adelaide, it is going get to 42c in the shade and 52c in the sun. The further you move north the hotter it will get. #Virginia and #Gawler are always about 2c hotter, so expect 44c out there.
Here is a easy #healthy #recipe, so you can make healthy #ice-creams for the family to help beat the hot #weather and not feel guilty. Also it is not full of sugar that will get the #kids on a high.
Ingredients.
Try to make about 400ml
- ½ a ripe banana
- 3 Strawberries or frozen berries equivalent. You can use any frozen berries.
- 1 cup of natural yogurt. I use Bd Farm Paris Creek brand because it is organic, biodynamic and they take really good care of their cows (cruelty free).
- Dash of cinnamon
Tools:
- Stick mixer and measuring jug
- Ice Block moulds
- Measuring Cup Space in the freezer
Method:
Try and get the kids involved so they learn how it is made. Kids enjoy helping out in the #kitchen.
- Place all the ingredients into the measuring jug.
- Blend it until it is smooth.
- Take the stick mixer out of the measuring jug and make sure you are have 400ml of mixture.
- If you are less then 400ml just add a bit of yogurt or water and mix again.
- Fill the ice block molds leaving .5cm from the top.
- Place the sticks in, making sure they are the right way up.
- Put the molds in the freezer for a few hours.
When the mixture is completely ready it helps to run them under warm water for a couple of seconds to free them from the mold. Try not to get any warm water in the area where the sticks are.
When handing the ice blocks to children explain to them that the sticks are not rubbish and to return them to the kitchen. I didn’t and we lost a stick. If you have a missing stick just chuck a spoon or paddle pop stick in place.
I hope you enjoy your Ice Creams. Here is a video of Sophie and I making them.
