Fresh foods, easily perishable, are best kept in the refrigerator. But in the refrigerator, there are different areas of freshness where every food has its place.

Micro-organisms such as bacteria and molds are almost impossible to multiply in the refrigerator because they develop much less rapidly with the cold. But the temperature in the refrigerator is not the same everywhere and for optimal preservation of food, it is necessary to observe the different zones of freshness.

Fruits and vegetables

At the bottom, you put fruits and vegetables. Here the temperature is between 8 and 10 degrees. If spots are observed with mold, they must be eliminated immediately because the bacteria spread quickly due to the high water content.

Meat, butchery and fish products

The central part of the refrigerator is the coldest part and is therefore particularly suitable for easily perishable foods such as fish and meat. Take care that no liquid escapes from these products which could damage other foods. For meat stored at 2 degrees the following storage times are calculated: poultry from 1 to 2 days, veal and pork from 2 to 3 days and beef from 3 to 4 days. Freeze fresh meat that you do not immediately prepare in the freezer to prolong its inalterability.

Yogurt, dairy products, and cheese

Dairy products are to be kept in the upper part of the refrigerator. Yogurt, if stored in the cold, can still be enjoyed weeks after the expiration date. An indicator to no longer consume yogurt is the lid that swells, also when opening an expired yogurt must be checked that there are no molds and in this case must be eliminated. While for a hard cheese you can remove the mold by generously cutting the moldy part, the cheese with the mold must be immediately eliminated.

Butter, eggs, and drinks

The door is the hottest sector of the refrigerator. It is reserved for products such as butter, eggs, drinks, as well as jams and tubes of all kinds (mayonnaise, mustard, etc.). These products are relatively insensitive and the loss of cold when you open the refrigerator does not damage them.

Note:

• Delicate foods should be stored directly in the refrigerator immediately after purchase.
• For foods that are easily perishable, the expiration date must be strictly observed, because improper storage can lead to food poisoning.
• Started food products should be stored in appropriate food containers, such as Tupperware and the like.
