Making one of my Favorite Side Dishes 🍴 GERMAN SPAETZLE 🍴
I am new to the @Steemit community but I wanted to share this as it brings me joy.
As a German/American with a Mom that was born and raised in Germany I many wonderful memories based around meals that my Mom prepared while I was young and even to this day.
American dishes often are combined with potatoes, rice, or pasta. All of which are wonderful, but I think adding Spaetzle to that list is great and that is what we do in our home.
SPAETZLE is a egg noodle, or dumpling type noodle almost always hand-made.
So the other night we had some leftover chicken and I wanted to make something quick and easy to go with it and I thought what else - Spaetzle.
So here is how you make it...it's SUPER simple. Just follow these 3 Simple Steps .
INGREDIENTS:
3-cups Floor
5 Eggs
1 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
Glass of Cold Water
So let's get started...
STEP-1
In a large mixing bowl add floor, salt and eggs. Use a fork to start mixing ingredients together after a minute or then slowly start adding water as you continue to mix. You have added enough water when it appears as if all the water is absorb but not to much as it looks like pancake batter. You want it to be somewhat firm as it will be put into a hand press as seen below. I prefer mine a little on the dryer side versus wet.
STEP-2
Make sure you have a large pot of boiling water ready... I like filling it 2/3 full and add some (1 ts) salt to the water. When water boils place some of the Spaetzle batter into the press. If you do not have one of these you can find them on Amazon just search for "classic spaetzle press". Squeeze the spaetzle batter through and let the noodles boil for about 3-4 minutes. Then remove the spaetzle from the boiling water with a slotted spoon into your serving dish of choice. Fill the press again with more batter and repeat. Do this until all the batter has been used and boiled.
STEP-3: That's It - Done!!!
I like adding some butter to mine at the end....simply because everything is better with some butter. Again this can be served with many meals that include a sauce. Spaetzle is great with Hungarian Goulash, Snittzle, Sauerbraten and so many other dishes . This receipt will provide plenty of leftovers. Holds well in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
