Steak Lasagna with Rice - Stratum Steak with Rice

in #food7 years ago

Ever get those days, where you want a steak, but at the same time something different? Well, I did and came up with a random dish. This dish is purely an experiment. It has multiple layers of both rice and meat. The following recipe is for around 1-2 persons.

Ingredients:

  • Rice (I prefer jasmine rice)
  • 1-2 Onions
  • 1 Spring onion
  • 1 big broccoli
  • Steak (Not required, but I Strongly recommend you marinate it!)
  • (Optional) Marinade for steak (To make my marinade, I use English sauce, soya sauce, salt, pepper and sometimes minced garlic. Put it all in a bag along with the steak and shake it around a bit and put it in the fridge. Leave it in the fridge for when you have to make it, usually the day after. After that just open the bag take the steak out.)

Instructions:
Take the meat and cut it in half sideways, or until you have an around 1/2 centimetre thick steak. I also cut off the big lumps of fat. (Optionally, but still recommended) Marinade the steak. Cut both of your onions fine. Start cooking your rice, there should be instructions somewhere on your package, but if not, I use 1.5 dl water for every 1 dl of rice. Cook at medium-low heat for about 10-15 minutes.

While that is cooking, take out your steaks and carve cubes into the meat. The cubes should be 1 centimetre on each side, but be careful NOT to cut all the way through! Put some oil or melt some butter in a pan and gently put the steaks on it. If you can't fit both of the thin slices of meat into the pan, just cook them one at the time. Cook at medium heat until done.

Make sure to keep an eye on your rice. While the steak is cooking, add both of your onions and saute them. When one of your steaks are done, put it in the bottom of an oven dish and cover it with a layer of cooked rice. Add both of your sauteed onions to the rice and spread it around. When your next steak is done, put it on the layer of rice and onions. Add a final thin layer of rice on top of that steak and put on some vegetables for extra yum yum. I used broccoli and it turned out pretty good. Served hot with something cold to drink and enjoy!

Final Product
On a scale from 1 to 10, I give it a solid 7. The total cost was around 20 dollars from my local supermarket, where I bought almost all of the ingredients, except the soya and English sauce which were the only things I already had. This might not be the last time I cook this.
