Milk 牛奶
Did you know that unopened milk is good for almost a week after the “sell by” date on the packaging states? That goes for 1%, 2%, and skim milk. To keep your opened milk fresh, set the temperature inside of the refrigerator to at least 40 degrees Fahrenheit and never put the carton on the door shelves — only in the body of the fridge.

If you detect slight changes in the texture of a condiment after using it for a while or the taste seems to have a sourness to it — toss it in the trash without hesitation.

watermelon 西瓜
Dry and gritty — if you can pull the flesh of the watermelon away from the seeds, it's no longer good.

Slimy and mushy — once the flesh has turned this way, the watermelon cannot be eaten any more.

Watermelons can be different on the outside due to its type, but on the inside, it should always have a bright red or deep pink color. Any discoloration on it would look like a light-pink, white-ish color which means the melon is too old to consume.
不同种类的西瓜外表也不同,但是西瓜瓤一般都是亮红色或深粉色的。瓜瓤的任何变色都会看起来像是浅粉色,而偏白色则意味着西瓜太老了,不能食用。
ground beef 碎牛肉
You can keep ground beef in the refrigerator for up to 2 days or freeze it for a couple of months, but always throw it away if:
its color turns dull
it appears slimy
the smell is off (sour or sweet-sour)

eggs 鸡蛋
Eggs are good for up to 3 weeks in the refrigerator or 1 year in the freezer, but if you doubt the eggs in your house, just take a glass or a bowl full of water and dunk the eggs into it. If they sink easily, they're good to go! If the eggs float, they have spoiled.

almonds 杏仁
You can maximize the original 2 to 4-week shelf life of almonds if you place them in an airtight container after opening. Store the container in a dark, cold or cool place (even the refrigerator) to make them last longer. If you keep them in the fridge, they can have a shelf life of one year! If you spot a little dark spot on an almond's skin or if you feel the body of it has hardened — the almonds are turning bad.
杏仁开封后密封保存,其保质期可以和原先一样,最长可达2-4周。密封保存于阴凉处(甚至是冰箱内),保质期可延长。如果把杏仁存放在冰箱中,保质期可达1年。如果发现杏仁表面出现小黑点,或者杏仁变硬,那么它已经变质了。
olive oil 橄榄油
Olive oil has a pantry shelf life of 1 to 2 years. But it can go bad easily if you leave it in a warm or sunny environment. You can store your oil in the refrigerator, but don't be discouraged to use it if it looks cloudy upon taking it out — it's from the solidification process. After warming up the oil, it will turn clear once again.
存放在餐具架上的橄榄油保质期为1-2年。但是如果存放在温暖见光处,就很容易变质。你可以把橄榄油存放在冰箱里,如果取用时发现它呈云雾状,不要担心,这只是由于之前的凝固过程。加热橄榄油后,它依然会变得清澈。
yogurt 酸奶
Yogurt's shelf life can be up to a week in the refrigerator unopened and even up to 5 days if it has been opened. But even if it's freshly opened it could be bad — look out for small signs of mold or even slightly changed color — if you find either of these, throw it away immediately.
存放在冰箱中未开封酸奶的保质期为1周,开封后的保质期也可达5天。但即使是刚打开的酸奶,也有可能已经变质——留意酸奶是否出现小霉斑,或者颜色是否发生变化——如果出现上述情况,马上丢了它吧!
