Testing the Beyond Burger by Beyond Meat

Welcome! Today, I'll test the Beyond Meat Burger.

First of all: No, I am not a vegan. I just love testing new foods or recipes. And today I had the chance to test the Beyond Burger from Beyond Meat.

Important: In the following I will show you how I prepared the burger and how it tasted to me. The evaluation is of course 100% subjective, but I thought it would be interesting to share my experiences with this meat alternative. Of course, I wasn't paid to write this product review and had to buy the product just like any other customer in the supermarket.

Purchasing:
The Beyond Meat Burger is relatively expensive with 4,99€ in Germany. For this you get a package with two Burger Patties. Compared to other products the Beyond Burger is one of the more expensive products in its category in the supermarket. Therefore it is rather a luxury product.

Moreover, the Beyond Burger cannot be bought normally in the supermarket. In order to buy it, you have to wait for special promotions from supermarket chains. There is definitely a lot of catching up to do there.

Pre-preparation of the Beyond burger pattie:
The Burger Patties should be stored at -18°C. Before preparation, the package must be stored in the refrigerator to allow the product to defrost partially. Otherwise the patty will be fried unevenly.

Preparation of the Beyond burger pattie:
First add oil to the pan, heat it up and then place the Burger Pattie in the pan. After about 5 minutes it is turned and fried again from the other side for 5 minutes. The Burger Pattie has a relatively neutral smell both before frying and when it is heated. But this is not necessarily bad. What counts is that the product tastes good. The smell when roasting is there rather secondary matter.

Preparation of the actual burgers:
Now the burger is built up. I have decided on the following structure:

• burger bun (top)
• sauce
• onion
• pickle
• tomato
• sauce
• Beyond burger pattie
• salad
• burger bun (bottom)

Actual taste test:
Ok. Now it's time to test the taste of the Beyond Meat Burger:
I am impressed. The burger tastes much better than expected. I've tried several products from other brands. But Beyond Meat is no comparison. The taste and consistency are extremely close to real meat. You can even taste roasted flavours. Really delicious.

However, I have to honestly say that about 5€ for two burger patties is a bit expensive and therefore (as mentioned before) a luxury product.
In addition, the Beyond Burger is not always available in the supermarket, but is often only available for promotions.

Personal summary:
I would definitely buy and prepare the Beyond Burger again. The taste is really good. Especially if you've just become a vegan and would like to have the meat taste. Even if you just want to eat a little less meat, the Beyond Burger is a really good alternative. However, Beyond Meat must reduce the price and always be available in the supermarket to be truly competitive in the B2C market.
