This delicious recipe is 3 generations old and it was found in a cookbook that belonged to my wife's grandmother. The 8 simple ingredients create a delicious mixture of apples, cinnamon and sugar enveloped in a batter that is then smothered in caramel. But this recipe has a bit of a twist that makes for an excellent cobbler.

  • Pour melted butter into a 9" x 13" baking dish.
  • Whisk together sugar, flour, and baking powder. Whisk in milk and vanilla extract.
  • Pour batter over the melted butter and whisk gently
  • Add 1 cup of caramel sauce to the apples and stir to combine. Reserve the rest for a topping.
  • Pour the apple mixture over the batter
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
  • Drizzle the remaining apple sauce over the cobbler.

The twist (at least it was a twist for us) in this cobbler recipe is to put the batter in before the fruit. If you are used to the normal method of making a cobbler it will feel like you are about to destroy your desert doing it this way, but I assure you, it makes the most delicious cobbler I've had. The batter rises and surrounds all the fruit in a light and fluffy cake, while the caramel and apples help to keep everything moist on the inside. If you try this recipe make sure to experiment with different types of fruit
