Hi Steemit, I want to share you the joy of my birthday with you. My family went out to a Shanghainese restaurant called XiaoNanGuo (小南國) in Hong Kong tonight, celebrating my brother's and my birthday. (Yes, we are twins. We have birthdays on the same day!)

Do you like pork buns?

Shengjian Bao is the pan-fried version of pork buns. The bun has a soft and fluffy texture, yet it's crispy on the bottom. The buns are stuffed with hot soup in the middle, so be careful and don't burn your mouth next time hen you're eating Shengjian Bao!

Xiaolong Bao 小籠包

Xiaolong Bao is one of the most iconic Shanghainese dishes. This dumpling showed you the chef's dedication and skills of making great food.

The wrappers are exquisitely thin, yet it's robust enough to hold a healthy amount of meat and hot soup without breaking when lifted up. You can still see the transparent-like wrapper containing soup in the bottom.

Squirrel-shaped Mandarin fish 松鼠魚

This squirrel-shaped mandarin fish has a sweet and sour taste. It is a signature Shanghainese dish as it has the' "Thick Oil, Red Sauce" characteristic (濃油赤醬).

Ants Climbing a Tree (Pork mince stir-fry) 螞蟻上樹

We ordered this Ants Climbing a Tree as well because noodles have an implication of longevity in Chinese culture.

It is a classic dish consisting of glass noodle in a delicious hot sauce with minced pork. The person who gave the dish that name probably saw the glass noodles as tree branches, and mince pork as ants.

Longevity Peach Bun 壽桃

We concluded the feast with this longevity bun which has a shape of a peach.

In ancient China, people believed that longevity peaches ripen every thousand of years, and grant immortality to humans when consumed. This longevity bun which symbolises longevity are steamed and can be stuffed with red bean/ lotus paste filling.
