KF 101(Korean food intro)-7 “Bibimbob”
Hello~!
If you even take the Korean airline, you can have this food! One of the most representative food of Korea is bibimbob~! Bibim looks quite familiar right? Last post was about Naengmyeon, and bibim Naengmyeon was mixing up noodle with sauce and veggies. Now it is the same conception but with rice. There are some famous city for Bibimbob. First Jeonju is the most famous city for all Korean food pretty much hehe, but especially Bibimbob is great there!
So usually they cook all different ingredients separate, and each ingredient has its own best way to be cooked. Diverse vegetables are selected and it is really up to the cook. After that you put bit of the prepared ingredients and decorate the plate like the picture above. At the end you put the proper amount of pepper paste sauce (Gochu-jang = 고추장), and sesame seed oil. Now you are ready to eat. Tips to mix this is that you either use the chopstick, or use spoon but just like a blazer. Otherwise you mash the rice, so that you don’t feel much of joy of chewing all together.
Also if you look at the dish itself, it is very effective to keep the temperature. Some restaurant even use the temperature checking and serve when it is the right temperature. It is quite hard to manage it, so if they serve it in the dish, it is very premium restaurant I say.
Alright then let me show you the different city’s bibimbob. This city is also very famous for the bibimbob. Especially they put the beef on top, but it is a raw. Well, if you love the steak medium rear or rear, it would be similar hehe. Let me show you.
Most important thing of the raw meat is that you use the best part which has very low fat, also it must be super fresh. Because of that reason, most of this Yookhwe (beef sashimi) place or bibimbob place using yookhwe has its own butcher’s store, or open near the store so that they can get the most fresh meat that day. Also hygienic environment is the prerequisite.
Lastly, this is the wild vegetable bibimbob. We call it San-chae-bibimbob. These veggies are grown in the wild yard or in the mountain. Many experts go hike the mountain and get those wild veggies and sell them in the market. It has very unique scent and very nutritious. Usually we can only eat in the right season, mainly spring. Here it is.
I know really amazing bibimbob place in Korea. ah.. I really miss the food over there. ;-(
