Wanting to Try Something New for Dinner Tonight?! ~ #moqueca
I got the urge the other night to be spontaneous and make something I have never made before. I googled some Brazilian recipe dishes and stumbled upon one I hadn't heard of, Moqueca. Moqueca is essentially a Brazilian fish stew. You can use any hardy white fish like cod, halibut, or snapper, or like the recipe I followed, big ole Gulf prawns. Feel free to use whatever seafood you have as long as it will hold up in the pan.
This recipe is realllllyyy easy and extremely flavorful. I used the following recipe found here.
The breakdown goes something like this:
Marinade your seafood in lime juice and chopped garlic and refrigerate.
Fry both your onions in coconut oil for 5 minutes. Then add the chili flakes, thinly sliced red peppers, paprika and remaining garlic.
Dump in the diced tomatoes, can of coconut milk, the rest of the garlic and a pinch of salt. Simmer for ten minutes or until sauce is reduced to your liking.
Then add your seafood. It shouldn't take long for it to cook, it's going to depend on what you chose to use. My big gulf prawns took about a minute and a half on each side to be cooked to perfection. Once they are a nice white color you can be sure they are done.
I sprinkled in some fresh ground coriander at the end and poured it all over a nice bed of white rice. It was absolutely delicious and I can't wait to make it again.
Even my good buddy Piter from Sao Paolo finished his plate :)
Let me know if you decide to give it a go! Thanks for reading and Steem on!
Yum, almost like a curry. Anything with coconut, shrimp and rice is gold in my book. Great entry @intothewild! Welcome to the food fight family :)
Agreed! Anything curry-like is a winner in my book too! Just made this again last night but added bay scallops this time. Gave it more of a fishy taste. Still good, but I prefer the first one still.
Thanks for chiming in!
Scallops sound like a delicious addition. Keep up the great cooking my friend :)
Dude place a fff tag on that and see what happens. Today is Food Fight Friday
That looks pretty dang tasty by the way
Hey @foodfightfriday, are you there? What happens when you make a food related post on Friday without using your, #fff tag?? Be gentle on him, he is new.
Did a fellow Food lovin’ Foodie Summon me???
@jlsplatts...what now?!?!
Shoot son!!! You know how I roll....
Added the tag ;) Let me know if you try it out!
can't wait to try this dish, looks delish. I have never used coconut milk but gonna try it...thanks for sharing
Awesome, let me know how it turns out! Coconut milk is a great at thickening up a sauce or used as a base. It lends itself to lots of different spice levels too, so you can adjust it based on your preference.
And you're welcome! Happy to share :)
This Looks So Good. Definitely going to try it. I think the coriander addition sounds brilliant and the choice of shrimp. We have one picky eater in my house, not @preparedwombat, he won’t go near a brussels sprout, but otherwise he’s game to try new things, as is my son. It is my darling daughter who narrows what goes on the table, but she is headed back to college at the end of the month, so partay! We will make some Moqueca then!
Partay!!! hahaha, can't wait to hear what you think of it! Maybe a follow up post of your own??? Best of luck and thanks for chiming in!
