FLIPPY, THE BURGER MAKING ROBOT REPLACES CHEFS IN CALIFORNIA RESTUARANT
Will you eat a burger made by a robot? This is real folks, robots have officially taken over the world and no one is even raising the alarm. Robots equipped with high-end AI technology are taking over jobs in all parts of the world, but Flippy, the burger making robot brought this reality closer to home as he officially began his shift as a chef in California fast food restaurant, CaliBurger.
I'd love to say congratulations to Flippy, though I can't help but think of the many jobs that will be lost to him and his kind in the nearest future. But away from that right now, let's check out some of the things this burger-making bot is said to do and how he does them.
HOW DOES FLIPPY MAKE BURGERS?
Acording to his developers, Miso Robotics, Flippy uses thermal imaging, 3D and camera vision to sense when to flip a burger and when to take the burger off the grill. The robot has the ability to detect the temperature and size of the patty, and also determine how hot the surface of the grill is.
Like almost all other robots, Flippy needs humans in order to operate correctly. The humans to put raw patties on the grill and also add cheese to the cheeseburgers.
Flippy's developers say he is equipped with technology that will make him get better at burger-making over time.
THE FUTURE OF FLIPPY AS A CHEF
CaliBurger CEO, John Miller, has praised his company's decision to employ the robot stating that it will bring efficiency and consistency to costumers of its burgers.
He also added that the bot will greatly reduce overhead cost of the restaurant chain over time.
Currently Flippy observes his shifts at the Pasadena restaurant of CaliBurger but Miller has revealed that bots like Flippy will soon be making burgers in all CaliBurger restaurants across the USA. Flippy costs about $60,000.
Miso Robotics has debunked claims that Flippy will replace humans in their jobs but has referred to the robot as a "third hand" to assist humans. Whether this counter claim is true or not, time will tell. But the recent surge in AI and robotics remains a concern for many.
