Sustainable Community Uses Freedom to Feed the Homeless

in #food8 years ago (edited)

Here's what we did today with our freedom at the Garden of Eden:

We offer our Epic Threads clothing line, high vibe health supplements, Epic Handmade Knives, beyond organic tea & smoking blends, and Über Dank Pantry by donation.

None of that money was spent fixing our floor.

Not only did we feed free meals to those in need, but this was also an act of civil disobedience: in this area, it is ILLEGAL to feed homeless people without a costly series of permits and regulations.

We believe it is our duty to build the world that we want our children to live in.

What a fun and beautiful operation this was. I am honored and grateful to have been a part of it, and my kids were too. It is atrocious how much food goes wasted in this society of super consumption. We at the Garden of Eden are very aware of how much food waste there is, and I am so thankful that Quinn Eaker is doing something about it! He is taking that almost wasted food and giving it to those who need it most. Not only does he give the food away, but he serves it hot and with a smile, acknowledging these people's needs as living creatures, and their dignity as human beings. The people we served were all really grateful, not only for the food, but for the human caring that was demonstrated by all the Eden Knights. What a blessing!

It is a blessing indeed! It's awesome to see the greater community and to choose actions that are for the greatest good of ALL! We are blessed that Quinn holds the unwavering standard. He provides selflessly and unfailingly, and we're grateful to be together in this epic LIFE!

What a great thing you are doing for those in need. You are showing true love.

An awesome example of people creating change! Well done, keep it up!

All we have is right now. No time like the present to help one another and be the change we wish to see in the world. This was truly an awesome day. So fulfilling. I'm so grateful to be me and a part of such a grand vision.

We don't wait for someone else to do it--we get in there and go for it!

Honestly, there is nothing else to do. Once you become aware of what is really going on and begin to realize the possibilities to live another way, doing anything else is a waste of time, a distraction and an excuse not to take responsibility for living the life you truly want. Being clear of what you want is key.

Do we want a different kind of a world?
How is it that we dream it to be?

Knowing one's values and living them is rare!!
I am grateful for @quinneaker setting a high standard and sharing it prolifically.
I hope people here on Steemit are standing up and taking note, hence being blessed by his example.

Gardeners have a great tradition of sharing with other folks that aren't as fortunate. Nice work.

Yes, there is more than enough of everything! Gardeners get to experience bountiful treasures growing right up out of the ground for free, and it is a pleasure to share the miracle.

Awesome initiative! Much respect for what you are doing there!

I am so happy to be following you guys! We need more people like you. My family operates a restaurant in NY and for years we would take food to less-fortunate neighborhoods (especially in the summer when a lot of the kids weren't getting regular meals since school lunch was the only one they could count on.) New York State stopped it because it was a "health code violation" - even though we've been a licensed caterer for decades! (Just celebrated 30 years).
I just don't understand why helping people is considered "bad" - especially when it comes to feeding them. It drives me crazy thinking how much food waste there is because of government restrictions. GRRRRR

Thank you, it's great to hear we're inspiring you! You have seen firsthand the arbitrary nature of these ridicullous restrictions. We find it appalling that anyone would seek to limit compassionate acts, and that is why we don't comply with them. It's absurd to think that we "can't" hand our brothers and sisters a sandwich when we have food and they are hungry based on man's law. Not to mention how much food is thrown out of stores on a daily basis because of "policy". We do not go along with dishonorable systems!

You guys are awesome. It is a beautiful thing you are doing.

My up vote does not count for a whole lot, so I sent a donation to your wallet to help with getting the funds for your floor. You have done an incredible job and I love what you selflessly do for others. I know you are not asking for donations, and a ground swell of upvotes is the best outcome for you. But I wanted to help how I could in a small way anyway. I think the ability to transfer steem dollars to you instantly to go towards a project far far away from me is cool and I just had to do it :)

Thank you so much @bridgetbunchy!! We really appreciate your generosity and support in helping us reach our goal. We are here to inspire, and we are SO grateful that you have received that gift! Together, we can do this!!

F yeah! I love giving away food with the Garden of Eden. So fun, so satisfying.

Yes it is! This was super fluid and easy too!
