Crispy, Crunchy, Salty Bacon Fried Pumpkin Fries Recipe from Our Sustainable Outdoor Kitchen

in #food8 years ago

The pumpkin harvest is underway, and we have new and inspired ways to cook it!

Pumpkin is a staple this time of year, and it has many uses beyond the classic pumpkin pie. It's abundant, hearty, and healthy, with tons of beta carotene, vitamins A and C, and fiber. We use it in a variety of sweet and savory dishes. We're already shared a few soups and an incredible pumpkin dessert, because the pumpkin harvest is bountiful!

A big pumpkin can be cooked all at once and immediately utilized or frozen, OR you can just slice off the portion you need for one recipe and use the rest later.

Today, we're sharing the food formula for an easy side - BACON FRIED PUMPKIN FRIES:

Of course you can use any oil you want to fry the pumpkin fries, but if you use bacon grease then you get bacon too!

We hope you are inspired further by the fact that this was all prepared in our outdoor kitchen. Sustainability is of the utmost importance to us, and we deeply honor and respect our food.

What fun to share such imaginative food. I hope people will start engaging with these posts and share their own experiences with substituting ingredients to suit their own tastes and preferences.

Well, since you're vegetarian you didn't try any of these pumpkin fries, but you have such an imaginative pallet! How would you have über danked these fries, @everlove?

I didn't have mine fried in bacom, but I did have some in coconut oil. I think they would be great sprinkled with brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. A spicy and creamy chipotle dip be a fabulous layer. Sweet, salty spicy, creamy, fluffy, crispy, crunchy, hot yummilicious!

I'll do you one better. Fry pumpkin chips in coconut oil and use them to scoop up some curried hummus seasoned with mint chutney.

AHHHHHHHHH!! YES! I would eat that with you! Yes! Yes!

Yes--and mmmmmm! How about this one? Maple Pumpkin Ravioli with Chocolate Cayenne Sauce

Maybe we'll have to make that happen one day.

If you've never tried it, one of my favorite pumpkin recipes is coconut curry pumpkin soup. It's great.

Never tried it before, BUT you had me at BACON! they look really good and heah! If bacon is involved its gotta be good! STEEM ON! 🍊♨♨♨♨🍊Reblogged! And upvoted,!

I never knew so many people really loved bacon until I lived in community! Even many of the people who come through here who consider themselves vegan/vegetarian drool over the bacon. It's almost as if they have thought it was bad for them all these years, and now are indulging like they have permission or something! Very interesting indeed! I haven't eaten meat myself in over 23 years but the smell of bacon takes me pleasantly back to childhood. Glad you're enjoying the thought of it.

But would you eat the fried pumpkin fries cooked in bacon fat?! Or would you need to fry them in something else?! 👍👌🐖🐽🐷

I did not have mine fried in bacon fat. Coconut or peanut oil is the best choice for me.

Love sweet potato fries but never had pumpkin fries. Looking forward to my first batch.

You're in for a treat! We sprinkled them with raw garlic and plenty of salt, but cinnamon might be nice instead.

Hands down the greatest fries ever!

I'm from Norway and we don't have a pumpkin tradition, but this looks very exiting :)

Some of our Eden Knights will pass through Norway later this season!

I find this very intriguing. I've never had pumpkin fries. Never even thought about making fries from pumpkin, actually.

We are insane with our food creativity here at the GoE. Keep watching for more.

What a unique blend of flavors!

Holy fuck! Pumpkin fries could stand up on their own for something I'd try but then bacon.

You had me at bacon.

Phwooaar, that sounds awesome and a must try after carving our pumpkin!

You'll want to use a fresh pumpkin.
