A Special European Treat

How lucky am I? This is pickled herring with a salt stick.

My favorite style is Bismarck pickled herring, it is supposed to be sour with vinegar. Unfortunately everything has sugar in it nowadays and this pickled fish is no exception. But it's not too much, it's still very edible. The brand is Richter, a Danish firm in Germany. It was packaged in Czechia.

If you ever order Bismarck pickled herring and taste it in front of the vendor it is your duty to yell at the vendor, Does this have sugar in it? Why does this have sugar in it? It is fish! Do this especially in Amsterdam.

The salt sticks were still warm from the oven. I didn't make it to my car without tearing into my goodies. Outside the market I had a warm salt stick with Fleischsalat, some smoked cheese and a beer. A cigarette would have been the cherry on top but I've been slowing down on the tobacco lately after smoking 25 years.
