The most comfortable of comfort foods adventure!! - Austin, TX
Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill - Austin, Texas
First opening its doors in 2003, Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill has become to be a staple to the Austin ever growing food scene. As you step into the establishment, you are immediately taken back to a more familiar, relaxed, and easygoing atmosphere that many of us have come to miss. Moonshine puts a innovative take on many of the classic all American comfort food that would even satisfy the pickiest of eaters.
I decided to celebrate my birthday here about a year ago and I can't help but to look back at the amazing foods that we all had that day. Oh and of course, the bottomless mimosa special didn't hurt ;) I recommend that for anyone who wants to visit Moonshine Patio to reserve a seat if your party is more than 4 as the mimosa and all-you-care-to-eat Sunday specials has gotten the restaurant filled with hungry eaters every weekend.
Warning!!! Pictures below will cause uncontrollable salivation!!!!
Chicken & Waffles
- We can't talk about Southern Comfort Foods without including this fine creation! This chicken and waffle was amazing and on top of it, the side sauces of lemon butter, maple syrup, and chipotle cream gravy was to die for!
Tender Belly Sandwich
- Pork 3 ways, splatter of grain mustard on both buns, complimented with an in-house beer cheese, and pickles all on top of a set of pretzel buns....oh and of course we can't exclude the perfectly cooked sunny side up egg :Q_________
Cedar Plank Salmon
- Blackened to perfection over a wood fire plank, topped with a variety of peppers that reminds you the deepest of summers even though we're sitting in the middle of winter. The side of garlic mashers was also amazing.
Fire Top Candied Grilled Brussels Sprouts w/Thick Cut Bacon
- Years ago, an amazing waiter introduced me to Candied Brussels Sprouts and ever since then, no matter what restaurant I go to, if this dish is available, I will get it no matter what! This was equally as good as any other restaurants I've had before and it's a perfect dish for any comfort foods meal.
Blackened Catfish
- Topped with Crawfish tails, hot sauce, and pecan meuniere. Looking at this picture brings me to the point of tears. Mainly because I now live up in the Northern parts of the US and great catfish and crawfish dish is practically non-existent.
Chicken Fried Steak
- This dish is arguably the basis of every soul food/comfort food dinner/lunch/brunch/breakfast or any southern meal ever. The chicken was tender and amazing and the batter was perfection. I absolutely enjoyed this dish even though I was only able to steal a small amount from my girlfriend =P
Chicken & Sausage Gumbo
- Ahhhhhhh, this was the perfect amount of soup and substance to keep me going as I waited for my meal to come. Though I prefer seafood gumbos, this dish here at Patio was not bad at all. I would say I wish that it was just a tad bit thicker instead of being so watery!
Fajita Steak Salad
- What's a meal in Texas if there wasn't some sort of Tex-Mex on the table?! I personally did not try the whole plate but I did try the fajita steak and boy....those things were juicy!! This salad had greens (of course), pico de gallo, poblano, avocado, cheddar cheese, tortilla strips, and topped with chipotle lime ranch to give it the zest to balance the taste.
Green Chile Macaroni
- Grill Chicken, corn bisque, and bacon gratin. I didn't get to try this dish but from what my friend says, the macaroni was great and milky and the chicken was juicy and tender.
White Chocolate Bread Pudding
- Thanks Moonshine patio for this dessert! It was just the right of sweetness and saltiness (from the pecans). Topped with bourbon cream sauce, raisins, pecans, and the vanilla bean ice cream rounded out the perfect heart southern meal that I much needed.
WHAT. Seriously. Yes, my mouth did water, darn you!! This all looks amazing. That belly sandwich with the egg? Chicken and waffles? More fried food with gravy on it. It's like Southern food heaven!
haha! I had to add the warning message x) One thing about living up north is that I no longer can consume southern cooking as much as I'd like =(
I sympathize! Enjoy it while you've got it :)
