Food-trail reviews: Torchy's Tacos.

in #food7 years ago

Hello everyone and welcome to the first edition of Food-trail reviews. Today I will be giving my review of Torchy's Tacos in Dallas, Texas. They are located on the corner of Preston Road and Forest Lane.

If you ask most people around here what their favorite food is they will likely tell you one of three things: Pizza, tacos, or hamburgers. Well, I happen to love all types of food but I cannot deny that tacos are among my favorites.

So without further ado I present you with a review of one of my very favorite taco shops:

Torchy's Tacos.

Now let's head inside.

One would assume with the little devil on the side of the building and the pitchforks on the front doors that this place was particularly spicy. However, that is not really the case at all.

On the contrary all the food seems to have just the amount of heat and it shouldn't have anyone screaming for a glass of water.

The menu consists of fourteen different style of tacos which you can get on either corn or flour tortillas. The tacos are all quite large and filled to the brim with meat and toppings.

Each one of these delectable delights has a very unique name such as "The Independant", "Trailer Park", and "Mr. Orange".

The Independent:
Hand-battered and fried portobello mushroom strips with refried black beans, roasted corn, escabeche carrots, queso fresco, cilantro and avocado, drizzled with ancho aioli on a flour tortilla.

Trailer Park:
Fried chicken, green chiles, lettuce, pico de gallo and cheese on a flour tortilla with Poblano Sauce. “Get it trashy” – take off the lettuce and add queso.

Mr. Orange:
Blackened salmon topped with a grilled corn and black bean relish, queso fresco and cilantro. Drizzled with Avocado Salsa, then served with a wedge of lime on a corn tortilla.

A full menu is located here: http://torchystacos.com/menu/

The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing with a nice selection of 80's music playing over the radio. There are several small wooden tables and black cushion booths to choose from.

Several kitsch items adorn the place such as "the wall of t-shirts" or the children's drawing board.

I wanted to color in a picture too but they looked at me funny.

Deciding to keep it fairly light, I ordered the Green Chile Pork Taco: slow-roasted pork carnitas simmered with green chiles and topped with queso fresco, cilantro, onions, & a wedge of lime. My lunch partner ordered the Mr. Orange.

We also got a small order of chips and salsa.

The red sauce it came with was spicy but not hot and it tasted of tomatoes, jalapenos, and caramelized onions. The chips were very thin and crispy and they were the perfect accompaniment to this salsa.

The Green Chile Pork taco is one of my favorite things on the menu. You can tell by looking at it just how mouth watering it is. The queso, cilantro, and onions were piled high and the pork was soft and succulent. This is one delicious taco.

The Mr. Orange also looked really good. My lunch partner is lactose intolerant and cannot eat cheese so it is missing the queso fresco in this picture.

Each one of the multitude of varieties of tacos that they sell here is completely huge and filled with ingredients. Two tacos should be enough for anyone. I usually get one taco and a half order of chips and salsa.

Most of the tacos sell for between $3.75 and $4.50. My total for lunch was $6.50.

Torchy's Tacos: The atmosphere is nice and relaxing and the food is absolutely amazing. I would recommend Torchy's Tacos to anyone.
