Weird Food, Where it Exists?

in #food6 years ago

Hi steemian, let's talk about weird foods & where it exists. I was wondering why most people love to eat this kind of foods, so I make research about it and here's what I have found..

Ambuyat Goreng

This dish caught us off guard at first. Ambuyat is one of the most popular traditional dishes in Brunei. You’re either a fan or you’re not — there’s no in-between. However, a restaurant in Brunei has managed to create a unique twist on ambuyat.

Ambuyat is already an acquired taste, so imagine frying it with soy sauce and belutak (fermented sausage). It’s weird, but in a good way. The Sutera team, however, was split on this — half of us liked this, the other half definitely did not.

Nasi Katok Burrito

If it’s cheap and delicious, it’s bound to be popular in Brunei. Nasi katok is basically just rice and fried chicken served with sambal, but someone decided to wrap it in a burrito and nasi katok burrito was born!

Adding a Mexican twist to a proudly Bruneian dish could be risky but we found that the tortilla helped us savour every part of the nasi katok. Unlike a typical nasi katok, the rice in the burrito is fried with sambal which made it less greasy to eat but maybe slightly too dry for some.

Nasi Katok Sambal Cheese.

While we celebrate the boldness of trying to put nasi katok in a burrito, we’re going to explore something close to the original nasi katok, with just one minor addition — cheese! Nasi katok cheese is an example of how one ingredient can change a dish so drastically. Not many (if any at all) nasi katok stalls sell this version of Brunei’s favorite dish, and you can choose from five different sambals for a grand total of just $1.

Norbi

Norbi is roti telor (telor means eggs) or roti kosong shredded into noodle-like strips and then fried with eggs and other ingredients, similar to other local noodle dishes.

At first, I didn’t understand the hype around norbi until I saw a friend order it — he was eating a ‘noodle’ dish but dipping it in a curry sauce usually reserved for roti telor.

How do you improve on a classic like roti telor? Well, norbi brings the taste of roti telor but with a kway teow-like texture. It got better when we dipped it in curry!

Tasty Rock N Roll Burger

The name of the burger already implies a sense of rebelliousness. It’s definitely telling you that this won’t be your typical burger.

But what’s in a normal burger, really? Patty in a bun topped with cheese and other condiments. Now, here’s the kicker. For this burger, you can select either a lamb, chicken or beef patty, and it’s topped with beef rashers… and peanut butter and strawberry jam.

It sounds bizarre but it actually works. The sweetness from the jam complements the savory taste of the peanut butter, which only adds more dimensions to an otherwise typical burger.

So those are the weird foods that only exists in Brunei. Now I am also craving this kind of foods especially the Nasi Katok which is very cheap but tasty. Remember HEALTH is WEALTH..

Thank you for dropping by!!!
Have a Blessed Day!
