Bake Skipjack Tuna in Long Night

in #food7 years ago

Hi steemian friends. How are you doing this weekend? Hope it's fun!

I want to share a story about a grilled (bake) fish dinner last night (Saturday night). Some say, "Saturday night is a long night". And, I passed that long night with a grilled fish show at a friend's house.

After posting an article in steemit about dried anchovy, Saturday afternoon, I received a call from Herman, my friend in Uteun Bayi Village, Lhokseumawe, Aceh. He invited me to come to Uteun Bayi, Saturday night, because there was a bake fish event at Jalaluddin's house, also my friend, and was a neighbor of Herman.

The fish roasting event starts at night ten o'clock. Some village youth prepare embers for grilled fish. The fish we roast this time are some skipjack tuna.

Did you know, skipjack tuna is very popular in Japan?

Skipjack tuna is used extensively in Japanese cuisine, where it is known as katsuo (鰹/かつお). Besides being eaten seared (katsuo tataki(鰹のタタキ)) and raw in sushi and sashimi, it is also smoked and dried to make katsuobushi, the central ingredient in dashi (a common Japanese fish stock). It is also a key ingredient in shuto.en.wikipedia.org

While in Indonesia, one of the most famous skipjack tuna dish is skipjack fufu which is a typical dish of Minahasa, North Sulawesi Province.

Cakalang fufu is a cured and smoked skipjack tuna clipped on a bamboo frame, a Minahasan delicacy of North Sulawesi, Indonesia.en.wikipedia.org

However, I and my friends in Lhokseumawe, Aceh, last night chose to process the skipjack by baking it. Tuna fish grilled, very tasty. So, the grilled fish show last night was a long night.
