Rawsome recipes #1: 20 min EASY to make, no sugar, TASTY, HEALTHY, raw brownies!

Easy, no cook, healthy, DELICIOUS raw brownie recipe!


The whole thing takes around 20 minutes and all you need is a food processor!

I've recently started journeying into the world of raw food and my mind's honestly been blown. Everything feels too good to be true! When you find the right recipes it's easy, tastes amazing and I've finally found something to healthily satisfy my sweet tooth without ingesting any sugar.

So ever since, I've been on a mission to reduce sugar levels in the people I love's diets, experimenting with different recipes, showing them the possibilities in healthy alternatives. So far, my mission's been successful and every recipe has been a hit! So now I want to share what I've learnt with as many people as possible. Especially people here on Steemit. Less sugar and less chemicals makes for a HAPPIER, more connected life, community, nation!

I've struggled with the complexity of raw recipes before. Things like the ingredients, methods and equipment. And this is exactly what stopped me from pursuing it, because I thought it was all too difficult. Too time consuming. So every recipe I post on here is going to be something anyone with a blender and food processor can do! As that's all I am... A total noob with a blender and food processor.

The ingredients for raw recipes can also be quite expensive, but they're much cheaper when bought by the kilogram. So if you're looking to save money, I'd recommend stocking up on ingredients for your favourite recipe (maybe this one, as it's been the best so far IMO) and maybe making one batch a week. Replacing some of the sugar in your diet is so much better than replacing none!

Enough rambling, let's get to it...


Brownie Ingredients:


1 cup of pecans
1 cup of dates
1/2 cup of cacao powder
3/4 cup of dried coconut flakes
3 tsp of honey
1 tsp of (himalayan pink or just) salt


For people in a rush:

  1. Chuck all of the ingredients into a processor
  2. Take the mixture and compress it down into your brownie tin
  3. Put it in your fridge for at least 20-30 minutes

For people who like to take more time...


Here's a walk through of the process. It's also a gentler, more efficient way of doing it. Especially if your food processor isn't very powerful. Plus I had fun making the pictures 8-)


Step 1:


Put the 1 cup of pecans into your
food processor and process them down
until you get a nice flour consistency
with the odd few chunks.

Tip: If you're not a fan of pecans, you
can also swap it for 1/2 cup of walnuts
and 1/2 cup of almonds! Although pecans
are much tastier in my opinion :-)




Step 2:


Add the 1 cup of dates dates to the
nutty flour and process down until
you get something that resembles a
crumbly cookie dough

Side note: This tastes amazing in
itself and I always find myself eating
a bit before I go on to make the brownies.
You can use this mixture alone to make into
balls or bars for quick, healthy snacks!


Step 3


Add 1/2 cup of cacao powder and 3/4 cup
of coconut flakes to the mixture, followed
by the honey and salt.

Tip: You can use maple syrup or agave
nectar instead of honey. Play around with
the amounts depending on how much
of a sweet tooth you have! But the brownies
will generally be sweet enough, especially
if topped with the below chocolate icing!


Step 4: Tip the mixture out into your brownie tin...


(This one measures around 8" x 12")
And you'll be left with something something that looks like this...

... And compact it down


There's just enough air in between the brownie crumbles to use a nice pair of freshly washed hands to compact it down into something that looks like this...

Obviously this mixture makes up half the tin, so I just double everything up to make a full tray of brownies.

Side note: If you're not comfortable with using your hands, I find using a spatula and the back of a spoon acts as a great alternative!


Step 5: Put the brownie in the fridge


This will make it nice and solid (yet also soft and crumbly!) ready to be cut into squares... or rectangles... or triangles... or space invaders... or whatever does it for you.

Tip: There are other things you can do with the mixture too! Like roll them into balls or make them into bars. These are great for little "on the go" healthy snacks throughout the day.


This chocolate icing is optional...

But just so ya know, it's the best part

Chocolate Icing Recipe:


1 cup of dates
1/2 cup of cacao powder
1/2 cup of water
1/4 cup of coconut oil
A pinch of (himalayan pink or just) salt
Optional sweet extra: 1 tsp of maple syrup


Step 1:


Put the dates and water into
your food processor

If you don't have time, process
away! There may be some small chunks
in your icing, but it still tastes great

If you do have time, leave them to soak
for 10-20 minutes to soften them up a bit
before processing


Step 2:


Add the rest of the ingredients and
process down until the mixture
is smooth, thick and creamy!

Side note: YES it tastes as good as it
looks and there's normally more than
you need. Which means an extra thick layer
on top of the brownie AND a decent
amount left to eat right out of the bowl :-)



Step 3:


Take your brownie out of the fridge and
spread a nice, thick layer of this natural
chocolate spread all over the top!

Then put your brownie back into the
fridge for another half an hour or so,
enough time for the brownie and icing
to become one in holy matrimony.



And that's all there is to it!


I made this batch and took the photos yesterday, but didn't have time to take a photo of the finished brownies. I've gone to take a photo of them today and realised this is all we have left...

Luckily had a photo from the previous batch to use for the main image, the one brownie by itself looks a little sad. I wish this was some gimmicky thing to show you how good the brownies are, but trust me when I say these things go reeeeal fast... Especially when you share :-) If you make these and love how they've turned out, I invite you to spread the love and share the experience and recipe with people you love. The feeling you get when you see someone make genuine eating/life changes because of it is even better.
