I was pretty upset for the recent crash and suddenly the idea of the end of the world came across my mind. What if today the government announced that today was the end of humanity. I imagine there was a outbreak of apocalypse, virus or radial explosion. if it happened, What would be the most valuable items to hold. I immediately though of the food and clean water. Who would still care about cryptocurrency or fiat when everyone strive to survive. If you are sad like me because of the crash, I hope this can distract you a little bit

I went to a local grocery store to check the price of food item and their shelve life.

最近市場狂在踢,我就在想如果今日是世界末日, 什麼東西會是最有價值的貨品. 想當然是食物跟水, 但食物有不同的保存期. 那種才是你最應該跟其他人搶的!

1. Canned food

To my surprise, they have much shorter shelves life than I expected. Most can only be stored for 2 years, 5 years at most. Meat can be stored for 5 years. Fish and Fruit can be preserved for 3 years in average. Soup, However, can only be preserved for 2 years.

2. Alcohol

Alcohol was a good choice to take. I don't see any shelve life labelled on the bottle and I assume it means there is no shelve life

High alcohol percentage has no shelve life indicated on the bottle which I assume there is not. I thought of it as a good source of disinfectant. Beer, however, do not store long. It can only be preserved for one year.

3.Water

Water only has one year shelve life. Who would expect that! It was just water so it should be fine. Imagine how important clean water would be if it is the end of the world

4. Noodle

Cup noodle and instant noodle can only be stored for 1 year. I always thought there would be a lot of
preservative in the noodle so they could be stored much much longer !

5. Rice

They can't be stored long, only one year.

6. Sugar

Sugar was unexpected. High sugar content should be able to supress bacteria . However it was only suggested for 1 year shelve life.

Oil

Oil is a good source of nutrient and for cooking. It has a decent shelve life, around 2 years.

Summary

My suggestion is , if the world is ending and you want to live longer, take the Canned meat, they can preserved the longest . Then Water and alcohol. These would be the most valuable. If you are sad about the crash, think about how cheap all these food and drinks are compare to the cryptocurrency. Buy it low and then sell it high.

總結一下, 最該搶的是罐头肉, 其次是水和酒精. 如果你為最近的crash 覺得難過, 想想現在這些有價值的還那麼便宜!!
