Granola
Got the base for this recipe from the Fanny Farmer Cook Book, but I don't think they were into granola back then or they had really hearty oats. So I altered it by doing some research, it is a really basic recipe you can do what you like with.
Base:
1/3 cup water
1 cup peanut oil or canola
1 cup honey
1 tea. vanilla (or cinnamon...)
4 cups old fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup wheat germ
1 cup shredded coconut
(they also have 1 cup of soy grits in the book but I don't use it)
Additional ingredients:
Sunflower seeds
Nuts
Raisins
Dried fruit
Preheat oven to 350*F
In a large bowl combine : oats, sesame seeds, wheat germ, and coconut.
Heat up the water just to boil and mix in the oil, honey and flavoring.
Mix wet ingredients into the dry ingredients a little at a time; when all the particles are covered with the honey mixture spread evenly onto 2 cookie sheets
Place in the oven for 40 minutes
Mixing every 15 minutes until granola is thoroughly roasted. (the edges roast faster so watch it).
Let cool then stir in nuts, dried fruit, sunflower seeds.
Store refrigerated in a tightly closed container.
Takes about 1 1/2 hours to make
Makes about 10 cups +/-
Notes:
The temperature and time can vary if you want, you could set the oven at 250* f and roast it for over an hour mixing occasionally; it depends on if you like it crunchy or chewy.
sounds tasty i have never made my own granola before
I hope you enjoy it! Aside from the basic recipe you can make it your own, even add chocolate along with the dried fruit :-D
It's way cheaper than buy it too.
Thanks!
Yum!
