Apple Raisin Perogies~Sugar Free And Vegan
In over three months I have not consumed refine sugar of any kind with the exception of a mindless drinking of a cocktail here in Mexico.
I used to use raw agave nectar but I am trying not to cave into it as long as I can. I may indulge in the near future though because it is quite available here. I would imagine that it is because there is agave growing here.
The first time I tried a fruit filled perogy I think it was cherry, it was made by a Ukrainian lady that I knew. I thought I died and went to heaven. It was so delicious to me.
Since then I haven't really had too many fruit perogies, but I was in the mood for something sweet but not too sweet.
Since I had a bag of little apples that I bought, I thought it would be a good idea to make a desert with them so I chose to make these apple dumplings.
I used ground raisins to mix with them as a sweetener.
The strange thing is I never was a huge fan of raisins. I was particular on how I would consume them. I used to like raisin tea biscuits from Tim Horton'sn coffee shop in Canada. ( I came from Hamilton Ontario where the first Tim Horton's came to life.)
Now I use raisins for my sweetener mostly because I can't find dates except for one time and they were beyond my budget.
I would have used dumpling wrappers but they don't exist here as far as I know so I just made them myself with flour, water, a jar as a rolling pin and a lid as a cutter.
The apples were precooked with the raisins before I filled the wrappers then steamed them.
I served them drizzled with pureed raisins and sprinkled with almonds. I would have preferred walnuts but as far as I can see they are not economical here. Cinnamon would have been nice but I just didn't have any.
It looks delicious as well as you describe and my mouth is watering. But don't die.... :D
I can refer you to take some bangali food if you can get it in Canada. As far I know there are many Bangalies in Canada. And the food seems like Puli Pitha.
and this one is my favorite fill with coconut and sugar(frying in a traditional way) and put them in milk..
OOOOH I want some soooo much mmmmmm! I am in Mexico now so I will have to try to make it. There is coconut here. Thanks.

Looks terrific! Do you make the dough for your pierogies or buy it premade?
I would have bought dumpling wrappers but it is not a popular item here in Mexico. I had to make them. In Canada I used to just grab the wrappers for convenience.
