🍎 Breakfast Chocolates - Living Raw Journal Day #5
This morning, we treated the kids to chocolates for breakfast.
Does that makes us bad parents?
No way, Jose! These raw chocolate recipes are delicious and nutritious. Yesterday was Labor Day, and so we shared a lot of time together as a family. Over and over throughout the day, the kids kept making healthy decisions: cleaning up after themselves, playing friendly, having positive attitudes. They won! And chocolates for breakfast is their prize for good behavior.
How To Make Breakfast Chocolates
Honestly, we're no experts. We are long-time flexitarians and culinary artists with a new discovery of the raw food diet. We are currently on our 19th day as raw foodists, which means we are relying solely on uncooked living foods to provide all of the nutrients we need to stay alive, thrive, and be vibrant.
The three key ingredients are: dates, nuts, and cacao.
Two Variations
1. Raw Chocolate Cream
First, we started with a recipe from @allasyummyfood, which is this one: RAW VEGAN CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES. We customized this recipe to our own taste preferences, and we came up with a coconutty raw chocolate cream, as you can see below. We prepared this dish in a food processor, and then served it with goji berries and banana slices. Here's the list of ingredients for raw chocolate cream:
- 2 C soft dates (soaked)
- 1 C cashews
- 1 C finely shredded coconut (unsweetened)
- 4 T raw cacao powder
- 2 T coconut oil
- 2 T coconut nectar
- 1 t almond extract
Our raw chocolate cream tasted a lot better than it looked. Trust us. Next time, we'll focus more on the presentation.
Daniel wasn't exactly bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 7 in the morning, but he was bouncing around the room by the end of breakfast.
2. Raw Chocolate Truffles
Second, I promised the kids chocolates and so I teamed up with the youngest kids again after our eldest son went to school. This time, we simplified the recipe with only three ingredients. Again we prepared the mix in a food processor, and the kids formed the chocolate balls into truffles. Because these chocolates are so potent, they only required a couple of bites to feel fully nourished for the morning. This beats cereal by a long-shot, both in terms of the quantity and quality of food we consume. Here's the list of ingredients for our raw chocolate truffles:
- 1 C soft dates (soaked)
- 1 C cashews
- 4 T raw cacao powder
For our truffles, we relied on three simple ingredients: dates, cashews, and cacao.
Rosalie formed our chocolate balls, while Gabriel taste-tested them.
By the way, I created these printable Steemit Tagging Cards, which you can see here. They're free to download, in case you're interested.
Success! A healthy mid-morning snack.
What's Our Takeaway?
Chocolate rocks!
Wishing you an incredible edible day,
Cabe

Looks so delicious. :D
The flavor is great, yeah, but I wish it looked a little more attractive. Next time I'll put my artistry into it, and improve the presentation.
I think this makes you great parents! Amazing post.
Cabe, I am 6 days into my Vegan September and would appreciate any tips you might have to make this transition easier for me!
Please be sure to check out my Vegan Diaries if you get a chance, the next post will be live tomorrow.

Cool, sure! We've had varying degrees of success as vegans, but it really started feeling good when we went raw. This allows us to eat food at their highest potency, with their natural enzymes intact, which helps with digestion. We were surprised. Also, we're big fans of the superfoods, e.g. cacao, goji berries, moringa, maca... although we're not entirely sure how to incorporate them. We find that we consume much less and feel much more in touch with our food, and honestly, more in touch with the world around us.

Btw it really warms my heart to see someone understands what chocolate is. Food of the Gods <3 Too bad most people around me think chocolate is processed sugar XD
Cool dude! Thank you. Glad to hear you tried the second recipe and it worked for you. I made them again last night, to give the kids a treat after dinner. This time, I made them even more deluxe. I turned the chocolate truffles into cookies, just pressing them flat, and then I whipped up some frozen mangos with cashews into a cream to go in between two cookies. We made raw ice cream sandwiches, yes!!!
