Crockpot Chicken Broth, Kitchen Essential!

Blue Skies On Mars

An essential cooking tip for a staple cooking item... Chicken broth! This broth is highly versatile, and ideal for a week of soup dishes for the family! High fiber, rich in vegetable content, vitamins and minerals, very soothing to digestive tracts, soup (or broth) packs A LOT of dietary punch! The trick is to NOT take the easy way out, and consume store-bought, canned, processed soups and broths, which are rich in BPA, sodium, and preservatives!

Best of all, it's one of the easiest things you can prepare and feel good about! All you need is to stuff your veggies, meat and seasoning, into a crockpot, and cook for 6-12 hours!

  • Today's ingredients, carrot, celery, onions, one whole chicken.

  • Vegetables are peeled, cleaned, chopped, and tossed in the crockpot. Seasoning, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, goes over it.

  • Looks good already, don't it?

  • Chicken has its skin removed, and washed with salt and water before depositing into the pot.

  • We fill the crockpot with (filtered) water, and set it on high.
    zp04.jpg

  • We leave it like this for about 4 hours, before it reaches a boil.

  • Once it reaches a boil, we reduce the crockpot to low, and let it simmer for another 2-8 hours.

  • This is a well done broth! After 10+ hours, we have this! Fresh broth!
    zp07.jpg

  • Now we need to pour the crockpot out into a fresh container for storage. We set up a strainer here, and place it in the sink to avoid any mess.

  • We pulled the now boiled chicken out, and set it aside in its own container. Everything remaining in the strainer, is now waste or compost.

  • A look at the chicken! Ready to eat! We will be saving this chicken for use in a few dishes to come!

  • Broth! Just throw a lid on it, and let cool on the counter for a few hours. It will go into the fridge, and be eaten / used up within a week. This broth goes pretty fast in our household, but some of you may want to keep this batch long term, so split it up into smaller reusable containers, and freeze them. You'll have say 8-12 servings, which you may thaw out a container a few times a week for example, to use in your cooking.

Thanks for viewing! Be sure to follow, as I'll be posting how to use the broth in follow up recipes!
