Saturday Night Bird Food! | Fun with Spicy Steak and Shrimp Fajitas!
Wow, what a busy day at the Bird nest. With just 5 days left to prepare for family holidays there is still much to do!
It's dinner time...and I guess we can't live on sweets alone...or could we? lol
The holidays also bring more and more tourists to our town! This means more traffic, longer lines and shorter tempers! Even though I’ve been in the kitchen all day, going to a restaurant for a Saturday night dinner didn’t sound fun tonight so I thought I would make a little spicy feast!
How about Spicy Steak and Shrimp Fajitas!
We used to visit this great little restaurant, Mexico City Grill when we lived in Indiana and they made the best fajitas. Unfortunately I can’t duplicate their fajitas. They seared everything, and brought it sizzling on an iron skillet. The fajitas were for two and we would leave the restaurant fat and happy! Loved their salsa and chips...although I can make a mean salsa too! Indeed fond memories!
Steak and Shrimp Fajitas
- Thinly sliced Steak
- Fresh Medium Shrimp
- Chili Powder
- Paprika
- Cayenne Pepper
- Cumin
- Onions
- Small Red/Orange Peppers
- Garlic Cloves
- Olive Oil
- Avocado
- Fresh Cilantro
- The Bird's Fresh Salsa
- Sour Cream
- Fajita Wraps
I loved making this meal! After a long day of cooking and baking I needed a quick dinner idea!
- Slice Onions and Peppers
- Sauté onions, peppers and garlic. Set aside
- Sauté the beef with spices then add shrimp. Heat together and add back those onions!
The kitchen was starting to smell heavenly and my stomach mentioned it was dinner time!
- Don’t forget the Guacamole! Mash up the Avocado, add salsa, cilantro, salt and pepper and cumin! Taste!
See, I that didn’t take long! Dinners up! Enjoy!
Now I can recharge for another day of holiday prep! Tomorrow I’ll be sharing the desserts I’ve been making. I'll be taking a special dessert to a neighborhood party so I hope you’ll stop by!
And as always, blessings to you all
FOR TSE ---> I'm still on the prowl for a good fajita recipe. @catweasel just loves them, and while I'm not big at all on peppers and onions, he could eat those all day long -- so nothing goes to waste around here.
I think the secret will be found in a good steak marinade. I've tried a couple, but wasn't that impressed. Either I need to let it soak overnight or I need to ramp up the spices. The ones I've tried just weren't strong enough to make much difference.
I tried one for chicken that wasn't bad but wasn't that great either. So ... I'm still looking. When I come up with something I'll let you know. (Positive thinking, etc.) But for now, yes, the condiments make the meal. Salsa, sour cream, guacamole, etc.
So it's not like I go hungry, even without the onions and peppers. It makes for a very colorful meal -- and hardly ever any left-overs. @catweasel and our dogs can pretty well polish off a whole flank steak. I have to get my order in early.
haha, I know what you mean...that sauce is so important. I don't know what this restaurant used, but it was just right not too thick. I'm still working on it too. Mr. B loves fajitas and he ate these like it was his last meal....I'll have to keep working on it. Let me know what you find...perhaps you'll have better luck! Well you better watch out....between your family you could get nosed out pretty quickly! :) Thanks for stopping by@enchantedspirit, appreciate it!
Just in the nick of time. I bought some cheap cut steaks to continue my work on a low carb chicken fried. I got more than I needed for the chicken fried (schnitzel) project and now I remember what to do with it.
Thank you. I'm on it!
We love fajitas...still working on a better sauce though. Onions and peppers....the restaurant also included chicken with the fajitas, pure heaven. No leftovers with this meal! ;) Thanks for stopping in @bigtom13!
Mr Bird is a lucky man is all I can say, this sounds and looks delicious!
I must say he was a happy man...one of his favorite meals. No leftovers tonight! :) Thank you dear friend! So glad you stopped in.

I havent had Fajitas in such a long time but these ones look and sound so good
We love them, I'll need to keep working on the fajita sauce...still not pleased. There weren't any leftovers, so I guess they were okay ;) Thanks @tatoodjay!
If there was no leftovers it goes to show they were really good thats the real confirmation :)
Sure is nice to see all the progress pictures. Your blog has gotten so professional and beautiful. I could scarf some shrimp fajitas right now. When we get to Costa Rica I’ll have to make that a first stop. Thank you for all of your well wishes and prayers @birdsinparadise- I knew I could count on you 😉
Wow, you are so kind! Thank you. The shrimp was my favorite part...well except for the Guacamole ;) I could eat that like it's my job! Anyway, I can't wait to see what you share with us when you reach Costa Rica! How long will you be there? Vacay or long term?
I luv, love, looooovvve guacamole! Dandays is allergic avocado so sadly there is more guac for me :). Because of your fajita post, I’m making fajita salads for dinner tonight. 😋. Of course Dandays will be guac-less.
We are moving to Costa Rica. One suit case each and we are off. It’s very gypsie of us but we want to go wherever the wind blows us. I’m hoping to experience a lot of central and South America.
It's a perfect meal. You have your meats and veggies all in one bite. Add on the salsa and guacamole...it can't get better than this.
Well, I could live on the guacamole....alone with chips lol! Mr.. B looooves fajitas so he was beside himself. No leftovers after this meal. Thank you @loveself, so glad to hear from you! Merry Christmas my friend :)
