Iron pans: How to cure them.

Hello everyone, today I want to talk about a topic that began with simple curiosity and has changed the way it cooks in my house.

About 4 years ago I was watching a documentary about cancer and how the figures of people who develop it have risen in recent decades, mentioned as Teflon and perfluorooctanoico acid or PFOA which is a chemical that is used to fix the Teflon to the frying pans are highly carcinogenic and should be avoided.

To be honest, in my house we never got out of a frying pan until it broke completely or warped too much and never thought about the quality in which they were.

What Les talk is already several years old, and my first kitchen battery, teflon by the way, has been replaced by cast iron pans and soon, I hope, by ceramic pans or glass dropper.

Not that they are the solution to cancer, but as a mother and wife we always want to take care of our family and avoid as much as possible expose them to things that are harmful to health.

Well, this post I want to dedicate to those who are thinking of buying or changing their pans for the cast iron, because at first I did not research enough and I came across a surprise (nothing surprising) and is that if you are not a regular person to clean , at least in your kitchen, maybe these pans are not for you because you have to wash them after cooking and not let them soak overnight or they will oxidize you. It happened to me and after researching on the internet I discovered that many too.

But don't get discouraged, curing them is the easiest and in a short time they get used to them.

To begin with, we must wash them well with an aluminum fiber, you can use grain salt or lavatraste, but only this time, then with salt will suffice.

Then we dry it very well, I use a napkin of the fabric type to absorb all the moisture.

Once perfectly dry, we will spread a small layer of vegetable oil, just enough to create a thin layer.

Now, we'll go into the oven for 1 hour at 180 C°. The surface of our pan is porous, to put oil and then apply heat we are sealing that layer.

After the time, we turned off the oven and let it cool down. When they are removed they will notice how they are brighter, now they can use them, always caliéntenlas well before placing what they are going to cook.

I love them because they do not require special care and are of harsh use.

You're absolutely right - simply applying a little bit of oil and putting them in the oven is enought. Some people make complicated things with salt and potato slices... not needed :)
