Reis war in Thailand schon immer das Hauptnahrungsmittel. Später wurden Nudeln von Chinesen nach Thailand gebracht. Auch der Wok aus Stahl wurde von der chinesischen Bevölkerung nach Thailand importiert. Allerdings waren die Chinesen nicht die einzigen, die die thailändische Küche beeinflussten. Das thailändische Curry stammt ursprünglich aus Indien, wie einige sicherlich schon wissen.
Rice has always been the staple food in Thailand. Later the Chinese brought their noodles and also the steel wok to Thailand. But not only the Chinese had influenced the Thai cuisine. Food in Thailand is also heavily influenced by Indian spices and flavours, which is evident in its famous curries, such as the green, yellow and red curries.
Wenn man heute Curry in Indien isst und Curry in Thailand, fällt einem sofort der geschmackliche Unterschied auf. Dass die thailändische Küche sehr geschmackvoll ist, habe ich bereits erwähnt. So wurde auch das indische Curry, mit seinen Hauptgewürzen, durch die Thais geschmacklich modifiziert. Sie fügten durch die Gewürze wie das Zitronengras, thailändische Basilikum und Galangal ihren individuellen Geschmacksvorlieben hinzu.

If you compare the taste of Thai curry and the Indian curry, you will immediately notice, that their tastes are completely different. Although Thai curry includes many Indian spices in its’ pastes, but it also maintain its’ own unique Thai flavour with the addition of local spices and ingredients, such as Thai holy basil, lemongrass, and galangal.
Weitere geschmackliche Einflüsse bekam die heutige thailändische Küche durch die umliegenden Länder wie Laos, Malaysia, Kambodscha, Vietnam, Indonesien und Burma.
Jedes Jahr wenn ich meine Familie in Thailand besuche, werde ich immer gefragt, ob ich schon dieses und jenes gegessen habe. Meine Antwort lautet meistens “nein”. Die thailändische Küche wächst ständig und jedes Jahr, kann man sich auf ein neues Gericht freuen.

Every year, when I visit my family in Thailand, my relatives would ask me if I’ve already tried this and that. Of course I always have to reply with “no”. Thai people are always inventing some new dishes. In fact Thai cooking is one of the fastest-growing and most popular of world cuisines today.
Schon mal südafrikanisches Curry gegessen? Das ist in meinen Augen ein sehr leckerer Mix aus indischem und Thai Curry. Also teilweise wird da Garam Masala mit Kokosmilch vermischt undsoweiter. Das kann man sich als Deutscher kaum vorstellen, so geil ist das! :D
Nein, aber so wie du es beschreibst, bekomme ich richtig Hunger darauf :D!
