Latvian national foods. Part No.#1: bread foods
Latvia is a small country in northern Europe, on the east coast of the Baltic Sea.
By the beginning of the 20th century, Latvians have been farmers, which is why the following foods are the national foods of the Latvian nation.
Bread foods
Rye-bread.
This is the most tastiest rye-bread in the world. I have been in many other countries and nowhere I haven't eaten so delicious rye-bread. All of the foreigners/visitors/tourists says that in Latvia is the best rye-bread.
Fine rye-bread
It's made of barley flour and cumin.
Bacon turnovers (latv. "speķa pīrāgi")
Short recipe:
For the dough:
500 ml of milk
1 kg of flour (maybe a little more)
50 g of fresh yeast
1 egg
2 tsp salt
150 g butter / margarine
50 ml of oil
3/4 cup / s sugar
Filling:
2 large onions
600 g of smoked pork
200 g of bacon (fatty bacon, latv. "speķis")
