Bangkok Cafes No.1 - Craft Cafe next to Phra Khanong BTS
Bangkok has so many little cafes that you really are spoiled for choice if you are looking for somewhere to have breakfast, lunch or even dinner.
They range from super cheap places to rather expensive ones, and their decor is as varied as their various menus.
In this series I will review a different Cafe each time so that if you are in Bangkok you'll have some ideas where to go to eat.
So onto my first Bangkok Cafe review!
Craft Café
Craft Cafe is a really charming little place situated right next to the Phra Khanong BTS station on Sukhumvit road, it is very close to Sukhumvit 69 alley if you are coming by taxi. There is a map below to make finding it easy.
There is a small seating out the front with 2 tables suitable for couples and row of seats for individual customers.
Upon entering you can see down the length of the cafe towards the kitchen area. There are some nice leather sofas to sit on and some small tables.
The walls are covered with various plates and pictures and there are hanging plants and other decorations around as well.
To the left as you come in you'll see the main seating area with tables suitable for groups from 2 persons upto 8 or more.
The Cafe has Free Wifi so there were a few people with their laptops.
The Food and Drinks
My friend and I were there for lunch and we decided to start with a smoothie each.
She chose a pineapple smoothie which was really very yummy and cost 85 baht (approx US$ 2.50).
I chose the Mixed Berries Smoothie, which was also delicious but had a lot of berry seeds in and I found them getting into my teeth a bit. Price was the same 85 baht (US$ 2.50).
Here she is taking photos of the drinks to post on her Instagram account.
Next we ordered some food to share. Our first choice was a dish called "Ka Moo Hung Lae", Pork Leg stewed with Thai herbs and served with steamed rice.
Here is the dish as displayed in the menu. Price as you can see was 195 baht, which is US$ 5.80.
The second dish we ordered was "Chicken Penang Curry", this dish is very popular with tourists as it is typically quite mild and has a creamy sauce. We could have ordered this with Roti (which is a type of bread) or with rice. We chose rice.
This dish was slightly cheaper at 159 baht (US$ 4.70). As you'll see in the following pics this dish was slightly smaller.
The pork curry was a slightly larger serving, and came with a very generous amount of pork that was extremely tender. The sauce was slightly spicy and had an amazing range of flavours.
The Chicken Penang curry was slightly smaller but still a decent size and it too came with a generous amount of chicken. The sauce was rich and creamy, mildly spicy and definitely full of flavour and the chicken was nice and tender.
My favourite of the two dishes was the Chicken Penang Curry, although the Pork curry was also excellent. There was easily enough for two people, in fact we didn't finish everything as we ran out of rice and I didn't feel I could eat another serving.
The Verdict
This was my first time to Craft Cafe but will definitely not be my last. The two dishes we ordered were delicious and a good size so I felt we got excellent value for money. The smoothies we had were also very tasty.
There were lots of other things on the menu I want to try next time, including a selection of breakfast and Brunch items and a yummy looking selection of desserts.
The location of Craft Cafe makes it super easy to get to as well.
Craft Cafe gets an easy 8 out of 10 for food quality and price.
On the map below I've marked Craft Cafe's location with a red blob!
