LlFE-CHANGING Mountaintop BBQ Whole Chicken, Rabbit Outside Chengdu, Sichuan, China
GUYS, GUYS, GUYS ---- I still can't believe how good this was hahaha the whole experience was unforgettable! Think you know Chinese food? Well, here's some Chinese food you probably don't normally think of as "Chinese."
Look, I've been living in China as an American expat for a long time now, and I've traveled all over this country. This meal. This meal. This meal was one of the best I've ever had, I think. Just an incredible experience - something I'll remember for a very, very long time.
How many times can you say you've had an entire roasted rabbit BBQ'd on the side of the road on top of a lonely, isolated mountain village in rural Sichuan, China? THIS was some real countryside eating! It's not at all what most people (and myself) usually associate with classic Chinese food, which is probably why we ended up there!
My local Chinese friend drove us to his hometown of Chongzhou, just outside of Chengdu so we could eat at his favorite restaurant, which had some amazing red-oil dumpling! Fantastic eating! After that, we drove for a while, made some wrong turns, somehow ended up at an ancient temple, and then eventually made our way to the place!
It was unbelievable. Epic. Real, literal street food. Cooked less than 10 feet away from where cars were going by. This was an experience relatively few foreigners in China get to have, and I appreciated every moment of it. And also, my dad was there! Fantastic - that made it all the better!
