DEAD ROSES

in #food8 years ago

Two years ago a well-known Rose Farm in our area was sold. The owner gave us the opportunity before the selling to buy the Rose plants. They sold it for ridiculously low prices. I jumped to the opportunity and bought 75 plants. However, they were not ideal to be transferred and re-planted. They grew in tunnels, were not young bushes and were uprooted without any soil attached.
We made holes and planted them all over the garden. They all died down. I was so disappointed! I decided to leave them there and with time replace them with proper plants I’ll buy from the Nursery. Our garden is fitted with a complete irrigation system. These plants still received water and fertilizer for the next year. To my surprise they started growing the next spring. They all sprouted from below the ground and became beautiful rose bushes which I am so proud of.
How many dead Rose plants do we pass in our life?
People who were moved from their sheltered “Tunnels”. Could be because of the death of a bread winner, losing a job, financial problems, divorce and even children taken from their homes where they have been molested, raped or abused.
“Uprooted” people who got so hurt in life that they do not want to live anymore. The old, casted away in retirement homes, the young who couldn’t cope with all the expectations of the people around him / her and is now a druggie, whore of thieve. The poor family where the parents are tired of trying to better their lives and do not want to try anymore. The beggar who surely do not believe in tomorrow anymore, and so the list can go on….
We ignore these people and look the other way. We are scared to become involved. We believe that helping them means material help, money and other material matters. We believe we are supposed to take over and completely better their circumstances.
Not necessarily.
Just pause for a moment. Give a smile, squeeze a hand, and give a hug, greet them.
Sometimes it is all they need. A smile may uplift a down spirit because he is acknowledged as a fellow Human. Squeeze a hand because it means that you sympathise and understand. Give a hug because it gives Hope. When you greet somebody you uplift them and make them believe that they are worth talking to.
Let us not pass the “dead Roses” on the way.
