Unless you are a science nerd just like me, monosodium glutamate, sodium sulfite, butylated hydroxyanisole, sulfur dioxide, and potassium bromate may sound alien to you.

Unfortunately, these names are all food additives that can harm your health and happiness.

As you know I am a huge advocate of the plant-based or vegan lifestyle. If done correctly, it can be one of the best diets out there. Plus, it's cruelty-free and better for our environment.

With so many people becoming vegan or vegan-curious these days the food industry has jumped on a new opportunity to increases its dollars. Just look at all the fake vegan foods they are selling these days.

So even more import than becoming a vegan to protect your health is making sure you opt for organic whole products while avoiding processed foods as the pest.

As a part of the amazing initiative initiated by @woman-onthe-wing to make this world a healthier place (check out her profile for more info about the #makeithealthy project) I want to share with you how I make sun-dried tomatoes.

I know buying a jar of pesticides- and preservative-laden sun-dried tomatoes is easier, nothing beats the flavor and benefits you'll get from making your own.

Sun-dried tomatoes are super easy to make. Your oven will do most of the work for you.

How To Make Sun-Dried Tomatoes At Home ☀ 🍅

Ingredients

1-2 kg tomatoes, depending on how big your oven is
Sea salt and black pepper
Extra virgin olive oil
Optional: fresh or dried Mediterranean herbs (I used dried oregano this time)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 200F (95C).
  2. Wash the tomatoes and cut them into parts, gently squeezing out the seeds. Place the tomatoes on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and olive oil.
  3. Bake until tomatoes take on a leathery texture. This will take 6 to 8 hours. Toss the tomatoes every 1 to 2 hours (FYI: Smaller pieces will go faster).
  4. When ready allow tomatoes to cool and store them in olive oil in a jar or container with a lid.
  5. Optional: add your favorites to infuse to oil and flavor the tomatoes. Lovely addition.

Thank you for the recipe! I want to try make my own :)

Processed Tomatoes are very good and good for my health will try to make it at home

Especially when you make them at home. Good luck!

Ohhhh! It’s a good idea! Sometimes I have so much tomatoes but i don’t know what i have to do with them, well done! I have to try it one day.

We love it. You could dry them in the sun too but we have too many bugs and critters here that would munch on the tomatoes while drying. Hehe.

Really amazing post, and very important inputs for the healthier diet. And also thanks for sharing step by step process of tomatoes stuff.

Have a great day and stay blessed.

Thanks my friend! You have a great day too.

Welcome. 🙂

Nice... you are absolutely correct that we should be making our own food at home as we can never tell what the processing plants are like (with uncleanliness or chemical additive/s). We need to slow down and enjoy more simple things like this. And of course everything tastes better when you make it yourself.

Amen. Thanks for the ongoing support @kyusho. Have a great day!

That's a great way to dry your tomatoes but it's not really sun-dried. In order to get tomatoes sun-dried, they should be drying in the Sun. :)

Lol. True that.... but in the tropics that attracts too many bugs so we rather dry them in the oven. Don't think the ones you find in the store are dried in the sun either ;) Have a great day!

Oh, I am sure the ones sold in the store can't be compared to homemade. Nothing beats the food you prepare yourself.

My hubby loooves sundried tomatoes. I really need to try make this for him :). Thank you for a great post :)

Thanks @nicoleslife. They are so easy to make. I am sure he'll love it. Have a great day!

Yum! Resteemed so I can try this later. How long would you say they'll stay good in the fridge? X

Weeks, months probably. Not sure they never last long at our home ;) Thanks for stopping by!

Ha, that's a very good point, I'm a sundried tomato fiend! 🌞

my friend a great recipe. we also consume too much dry tomatoes. I love it!
