5 Ghanaian FOODS To Have On Your Bucket List

in #food8 years ago (edited)

1.WAAKYE

Pronounced as 'wa chi' this is a dish that shows Ghanaians love for rice and beans. Waakye is one of those spicy foods which can be eaten with either fried fish or chicken, egg, spaghetti, coleslaw or any vegetable toppings of your choice and should not be missed at any cost.

2. RED RED

Many people around the world would shy away at the sight of the beans and palm oil flavor of this rather delicious meal. Red Red is one of those few dishes that has managed to reignite the love of beans in many people. Cooked into a fine bean curry that can include either a mix of prawns or fish and fried ripen plantains, this is a dish you would taste and thank me later.

  1. FUFU

Made from a mixture of pounded cassava and plantain, this smooth starchy ball of fufu is mostly served with different varieties of soup. Most Ghanaians love this meal served with a garnish of fish or of meat. I can guarantee this dish is eaten in every Ghanaian home. Don't miss this tasty meal if you ever visit Ghana.

4. BANKU & TILAPIA

Banku is made from corn dough and mostly served with sauce, stew or soup. Many others would want it served with  a mixture of grounded pepper, onions and tomatoes and the famous Ghanaian fish, spicy grilled tilapia. Due to its fresh state, tilapia is the preferred choice for people on a diet since it can be fried, baked, or smoked without any spices and oil.

5. Fried rice and Chicken (Check check)

A well prepared plate of fried rice with grilled or fried chicken can even drive the mpost critical foodies for second servings. Famously known as 'check check' you can find vendors on every street corner as it is sold at fast food joints.
