Even more evidence that it wasn't Chauvin's knee that killed Floyd.

I'm gonna lose friends if enough people read this. This is also going to be something that isn't just gonna lose me leftist friends. I'm a libertarian, a lot of my friends are libertarians, a lot of my libertarian friends won't like this.

Still, the truth matters. I do believe that an innocent man is going to die in prison, and that's wrong.

I've already said a bit about the death of George Floyd, and the conviction of Derek Chauvin. Being that I was so incredibly wrong from the outset, I haven't said enough. I let the media convince me to question my own lying eyes in this case.

Libertarians aren't too keen on cops. Libertarians have a more intellectually consistent aversion to cops than leftists, because libertarians don't like big government. We hate Palpatine and the stormtroopers, while leftists love Palpatine and hate the stormtroopers. My judgement was clouded in regard to Derek Chauvin in a way that it wasn't clouded in regard to Daniel Penny. That's an explanation, not an excuse.

We got the whole case wrong from end to end.

Some things that haven't changed for me include the fact that stealing sneakers from a target and burning down buildings weren't acts of justice for George Floyd. Even if you still believe that Floyd was murdered, it's daffy to treat Floyd like an angel -- the guy was a violent criminal.

I will say that, by the time Chauvin was on trial, my original reactions had calmed down, and I was in a place where I knew that Chauvin was going to be found guilty even though I had doubts. If you can't breath, you can't yell. Just like the case with Jordan Neely, people survive the restraint all the fucking time. They only tend to die when they have a fatal dose of fentanyl in their systems. George Floyd had three times a lethal dose of fentanyl in his system.

Now, there's even more evidence that it wasn't Chauvin's knee that killed Floyd.

I've already said that I would have voted to acquit if I were on the jury, and I'm saying that again now. No sensible person can look at the evidence and say that he or she is certain, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Chauvin's actions caused Floyd's death.

Even if you got this far, and you're still convinced of Chauvin's guilt, you have to admit that the fact that a dude lied to get on the jury with the intent to convict Chauvin regardless of evidence shown at trial should be enough to get Chauvin a new trial. If you wanna talk about the system failing, that's it. The only argument against Chauvin getting a new trial is a general, "The end justifies the means." attitude. The end never justifies wrong means. Criminal justice is nothing if not for the process. If the process goes wrong, the outcomes end up being wrong.

I can't justify being around the bush on this. I'm not saying that Chauvin is a good dude. I'm not saying that Floyd deserved to die. I am saying that this country lost its collective shit, that we bought a false narrative, and a person who doesn't deserve to die in prison probably will because of it.
