Strawberry Cultivation
Stroberries are famous everywhere, but not everyone knows how to cultivate. In this blog will be presented about strawberry cultivation techniques, in hopes to be useful for all of us, especially for me personally.
1. BRIEF HISTORY
Strawberries are herbaceous fruit plants found first in Chile, America. One species of strawberry plants namely Fragaria chiloensis L spread to various countries of America, Europe & Asia. Furthermore, other species, namely F. vesca L. is more widespread than other species. This strawberry is also the first time entering Indonesia.
2. TYPE OF PLANTS
The strawberries we find in supermarkets are hybrids produced from the cross of F. virgiana L. var Duchesne from North America with F. chiloensis L. var Duchesne from Chile. The crosses resulted in a hybrid of modern strawberries (commercial) Fragaria x annanassa var Duchesne. The introduced strawberry varieties that can be planted in Indonesia are Osogrande, Pajero, Selva, Ostara, Tenira, Robunda, Bogota, Elvira, Grella & Red Gantlet. In Cianjur planted varieties Hokowaze from Japan who quickly bear fruit. Lembang Farmer (Bandung) who has long planted strawberries, using local varieties of Bengal & Pineapple suitable to make processed food from strawberry like clock.
3. BENEFITS OF PLANTS
Strawberry fruit is used as food in the fresh or processed. Food products made from strawberries have been widely known for example syrup, jam, or stup (compote) strawberries.
4. SENTRA INVESTMENT
It can be said that the cultivation of strawberries has not been widely known and in demand. Because it requires low temperatures, cultivation in Indonesia should be done in the highlands. Takengon (South Aceh) is a central agricultural area where farmers have started to cultivate strawberries. It can be said that for now, the two regions are the center of planting strawberries.
