CULTIVATION OF NEW TYPES OF FLOWERS 🌹🌺

in #flower7 years ago

Hello everyone,
Today I give you some information about cultivation of new types of flowers :) I had this on school so I translated it and put this a little bit in my own words :P I am not the best in English but Ihope you understand it :D

The cultivation of new types of flowers is a speciality in the floral industry. It often goes along with breeding.

Breeding is the technique that deliberately hereditary characteristics of flowers changes, with the aim of a stronger kind of flower to grow attempting to make a stronger flower. If such a change takes place spontaneously in nature, we call it a mutation. This is done by human intervention, then it is called breeding.
If it's not going in the first place to get a stronger flower but simply to a new shape, color or smell then the term breeding is less applicable. The flower itself is not substantially improved in quality and shelf life

This is a mutation.

BREEDING OF NEW SPECIES FOR AND BY THE TRADE
A bulb grower trying to grow new types from existing types to cross with each other. That can be quite easily by applying pollen of one species on the pistil of the other kind. The seed that this creates, will have properties of both species used. From that seed back come arise all kinds of flowers which sometimes turns out to be a one hit the mark by a special new color, smell or shape. If a breeder may have developed such a flower, it is important to register officially this new variety. The grower can now go try or the new flower does well on the market.

As with so many things, is the practice of growing new species a lot more unmanageable than the story on paper. There are often years before there really is a new suitable flower is developed. On tulips may even be twenty years before the right kind of seed is developed and cultivated. Despite modern facilities such as laboratories and research centres, it is also a matter of luck and thought out Act. Maybe it will ever be possible to develop a black Tulip, but maybe not ...
