What is the GM Diet?
The General Motors Diet was devised by the company General Motors to help its employees deal with weight loss as they got no exercise at all. It is definitely helpful to DETOX your body and get rid of extra flab.
I tried it and here are my observations:
Not as easy as it looks:
At first you see the diet. You go all "Oh I can do this, won't be so hard!". WRONG. The first day you'll be extremely motivated and so will not feel the hunger. Because you're almost 100% sure that today is the day you've started your journey to lose weight. But if you don't follow through the plan, you'll be disappointed. So you HAVE to follow it all 7 days of the week or prepare yourself for the tears that will follow. Can't change a single meal plan:
If you think you can consume a food with the same amount of calories as the meal plan for the day, for example, a muffin for 3 bananas, WRONG. That'll take you a quick U-turn from the weight loss program. It's not about the calories. It's about the protein, fats, carbs intake. So you have to stick to the plan. The illness that follows:
For most people, making a drastic change in eating habits can be disastrous. Before starting any diet, you HAVE to consult a dietician. You have to prepare the body for the starvation that follows. Otherwise, you'll have less energy in the beginning of the plan and be the witness of fever, headaches, stomach upsets in the following days. You can't concentrate on your work and are prone to go back to the unhealthy lifestyle you were used to.
So there it is. This diet is a little extreme for some people. So maybe start with a few days plan at a time? Maybe 3 days of clean eating and 2 days of the usual? A full week suddenly can be too much for the body. Once you've trained your body to get used to it, you can aim for more than a week at once.
Hope I helped! Thanks for reading.
Edit 1: Stijn Hommes just brought to my attention that General Motors have denied that the company has anything to do with the diet. It's a myth. Thank you.
