Lean Eats: Mobile Protein
I spend a minimum of eight hours a day on the road. Naturally, this is an obstacle when you're being very strict in your diet and trying to eat lean. In order to combat this, I have to have things in my vehicle at the ready so that I don't cave in and grab whatever I can find on the road.
I love beef jerky and Ostrim meat sticks, but I do my best to minimize cured meat intake, and therefore they're not my normal go-to.
I get 50 grams of protein out of this combo, spend less than I would at the drive through, and stay on track with my macros. If you get bored of the same ol' week after week, change it up a bit next week. Replace an item with a couple eggs, or a cup of cottage cheese, etc. Whatever you can keep ready that hits your numbers and you can eat often. The simplicity will aid you if you're leaning up.
I'll admit that it's not easy eating this for a week straight for lunch, and will-powering myself away from Chik-Fil-A or In-N-Out when I see them, but it's even harder to turn down those temptations if I don't have something on hand that meets my needs. Be prepared and don't set yourself up for failure. When you do finally reward yourself with road food, it'll be because you earned it, not out of desperation and bad planning.
