Big fire in Striano, confetti factory on fire

A column of thick black smoke. Huge and very high, visible from kilometers away. Images captured by the smartphones of citizens and motorists which went around the web in just a few seconds. The flames broke out inside the Ambrosio Idav confectionery company which has its factory in Striano, in the province of Naples. Candied fruit, jams and sugared almonds are produced inside. Two hundred employees. Luckily no one was injured. Fire Brigade and Carabinieri on site.
The mayor of Striano, Giulio Gerli, has signed an ordinance in which the population living near the industrial factory is invited to close their windows and deactivate the forced ventilation and air conditioning systems. The same provision prohibits the consumption and sale of fruit and vegetables harvested in the hours following the fire in areas within a 2 km radius.
