Different types of Fire Suppression System
Every room of a commercial building that have high occupant load should maintain a Fire Suppression System as a protector from accidents. While each building serves for a purpose, thanks to the advancement in the industry, there are different types of suppression systems that go with the place to be used.
Having a fire suppression system, that not only detects and alarms the danger but also restricts the fire and damage to a great extent, is necessary for buildings that work with flammable materials or that which carry out heavy machinery operation where the risk of overheating and operational failures results in a great loss. Importantly, commercial kitchens that work continuously on fire should maintain a kitchen fire suppression system.
These fire suppression systems are available based on the environmental and economic constraints, design and flexibility constraints.
Tube based Suppression System
Tube suppression system is an extinguisher witha length of heat detection tube which detects and releases the agent and a valve to regulate its movement. The tube is designed such that upon detection of heat with more than the recorded level of temperature, ruptures a hole that propels agent directly onto to the risk. This type of suppression system is suitable to take over the risk of electronic fire accidents that which is difficult to detect along the length in its initial stage.
Foam Deluge Suppression System
Foam deluge systems are specifically designed for places where usage of water or gas results in great damage. The foam deluge system works by dispersing foam-based mixture through a sprinkler. It is used in place of accidents like transformers, oil tankers and storage units which is difficult to tackle with conventional suppression systems that uses water or gas.
Kitchen Suppression Systems
Commercial kitchens or restaurants that works with heavy fryers and ovens should set up this suppression system that uses wetchemical foam like Amerex or Ansul. The system works by spilling water-based agent with a chemical foam type mixture through the nozzles that are placed under the cooker canopies. The system can be triggered manually or by a thermal link that is fixed to a wire which breaks when detected an unusual fire.
Dry Chemical Suppression Systems
This type of suppression systems that use dry chemical compounds (Class ABC or Class BC) are easy to use and recharge. They are the most commonly used suppression systems in industrial plants asthey are can supress fires that not only involve combustible materials but also flammable liquid fire.
Clean Agent Suppression System
This Fire Suppression System uses Clean Agents likeECARO-25® (HFC-125), FM-200 (HFC-227ea), 3MTM NovecTM 1230 thatnot only acts instantaneously but are also environmentally friendly. They are manufactured to be safe on humans and they do not leave any effect on documents, electronics or files. They are used at places where there is more human occupancy like data processing centersand industrial facilities
Inert Agents
Inert Agent Fire Suppression Systems likeINERT-SIEX™ are made from atmosphere gases like nitrogen, argon and CO2, or their combination and hence are environmentally friendly. They restrict the fire by decreasing the oxygen level there by making it difficult to combust.
Choosing and Installing an appropriate Fire Suppression System for your building ensures a safe, effective and efficient work environment.
