Fintech Careers Abound Amid Massive Disruption
As FinTech Recruiters, we’re often contacted by various professionals who are interested in learning more about FinTech and the career opportunities in the space.
Many of the candidates who contact us are highly skilled Finance professionals facing a similar predicament to their blue-collar counterparts of the late 70s and 80s: they’re being replaced by automation. This is especially true for middle and back office functions within banks and other financial institutions.
Recently, we’ve witnessed massive bank layoffs in both the US, Canada and Europe to illustrate this very phenomenon. In Oct 2015, Deutsche Bank announced that it was withdrawing from 10 global markets and cutting 15,000 jobs.
Of course, Deutsche Bank was not alone in the trimming of its workforce. In Canada, TD Bank, Bank of Montreal (BMO) and ScotiaBank had similar announcements of job cuts in the hundreds. And CNBC reported that Bank of America and Citibank reduced their combined staff by 20,000 in the US.
