Snow in May
Takatalvi (back winter) is here!
The universe lulled us into believing that summer is almost here, we had some really nice, warm, sunny days, with temperatures almost reaching 20 degrees Celsius in the middle of the day. How wrong we were! It’s somewhat unusual to get snow in May, but nothing unheard of in Finland.
For a couple of days, the temperature has been hovering around zero and it’s been snowing on and off. I’m currently in central Finland and while it has been snowing, it’s not cold enough for the snow to stay on the ground for long. In northern Finland, they got something like 10 centimetres in 24 hours. That is pretty intense in May.
There have been quite a lot of road accidents in resent days because almost everyone switched to summer tires weeks ago, and with sudden snow and ice, the roads are deadly slippery. Luckily we came from southern Finland yesterday afternoon when the roads were clear on out path, it only started snowing again during the night.
It was the same in Denmark friday :(

You don't really need them because the temperature barely dips below zero in the wee hours of the morning.
It sounds more like the weather being something to justify still not having changed your tires.
My sister in law told me it was snowing again and was a bit dismayed at the return to snow...I just said that I'd love to see it and that I think it would be cool the spend a year in Finland to see all the seasons back to back. I know, you're probably thinking "weirdo" it's just snow...But coming from Australia, well, your weather is as far from our reality as it could be. I think it would be cool. (Bloody freezing) 😊 I'd like to see takatalvi!

The same white shit here in Norway ;) passing snow storms all day today, but it is quite normal... what was not normal was 20 degree in April... so, that is how it is here, in the north...
so cool that is has a name!
We have allll the names when it comes to winter, snow and ice 😂😅

We had the same in Ottawa with freezing rain on Thursday. Today is the first day in 7 months with a temperature over 20°C.
