The Last Boy Scout (film): Good mix of comedy and action
I suppose i shouldn't consider it comedy, but it does have its moments where Damon's true talents are allowed to shine through although for the most part this is an action / drama film.
The year was 1991 and Damon Wayans was at the height of his career while Bruce Willis was in a bit of a slump after Hudson Hawk bombed and Hollywood's interest in booking him was starting to wane. This film brought a bit of that faith in Willis back despite the fact that The Last Boy Scout was not a huge hit. As a matter of fact it lost a bunch of money but for some reason this didn't reflect badly on Willis. Things like this are the reason why i can't understand Hollywood. Also, although the movie is good, when watching it I have a hard time understanding where they spent the $75 million.
So the story finds Joseph (Bruce) and James (Damon) meet up by accident as they both end up getting roped into a sports gambling conspiracy by accident. They do not get along and frequently fight with one another. However, with their combined skills they make a pretty decent team. There are some annoying elements in the movie that are typical of early 90's tough guy hero films such at Bruce being basically unstoppable. I suppose we have all kind of gotten used to that by now though.
Also, who can forget the "touch me again and I'll kill ya" scene? - which as it turns out is nearly impossible for a human to perform on another human but adds to Bruce's bad-assery in a quick way.
If you enjoy Damon Wayans and don't mind stepping back in time a little bit as far as cinematography is concerned, this movie is definitely worth seeing and come recommended by the Dream.
This trailer is pretty bad, but it was made 30 years ago. The Last Boy Scout unsurprisingly was not nominated for any awards other than MTV ones and those don't count if you are older than 15 years old.
As much as I love Die Hard, I'm going to just tell you the details about The Last Boy Scout. This movie is very similar to Lethal Weapon and I can't believe that I haven't been reviewing all Lethal Weapon films. Including the scene where Darian, Joe's daughter watching it. While I was thinking about this recently I watched the opening credits from this and the guy who wrote the story and screenplay is Shane Black. He just wrote the screenplay for the Lethal Weapon films and now The Last Boy Scout. That is why the story is done twice. Why didn't I think of this before? What really surprised me is that it bombed at the box office which was crazy and aside from that I'm surprised that it had a cult following. So it's directed by Tony Scott and all I can see is the same location as Beverly Hill Cop and Beverly Hills Cop 2. The action scenes are awesome as usually like the ending where Joe and Jimmy heading to the football stadium to take down Marcone and Milo before they take down the president. This movie is awesome, well, not as good as the Lethal Weapon films and the Die Hard films which stars Bruce Willis but it's still awesome. So this buddy cop action flick will make you dance a jig and have Friday night's a great night for football.
awesome follow-up dude. 100% upvote for you :)
